Well I must admit that was a lot of fun.  The only thing that knocked it off the top of the list was Sulphur Springs last weekend.  That was awesome.  I don?t think that I have seen so many people rocket out of a start line like they did today.  Before you knew it I was at the back of the pack and for that matter last even before I was down the hill to the first turn.  But that didn?t stop me.  I was determined to keep a good pace and finish under 60 mins.

The first loop of the nature trail was pretty lonely.  I passed one of the two end guys before we made it half way around the first part of the trail.  The pack had already sprinted out of sight at this point and there was no way I was going to catch up.  But I felt good and the only thing that was a problem was that I had forgotten the sponge that Jane had given me. It was getting really hot.  I had brought it but didn?t think that it was warm enough to use it.  Never second guess yourself.  Just get it and use it next time.

I kept the guy that was in front of me in my sight and thought that there would be some place along the way that I could catch up and maybe pass.  The second part of the nature trail was really uneventful.  The smell was there but I just kept concentrating on going forward and not breathing too deeply.  Part of the starting group was coming around as we were heading out.  Was good to see friendly faces and have a chance for a hand slap and a good job comment.

By the end of the nature trail and starting out for the main road the guy in front of me came almost to a halt.  I spoke to him about the gym and he said that he had stopped sweating a long way back.  I offered him mine but he refused.  So bye I went and headed off to the gate and the home stretch.  I felt pretty good.  Proceeded through the gate giving myself a bit of a pep talk (I think a bit to loudly) and was overheard by someone standing out on the front deck.  I just waved as he laughed and continued on.  I passed another gentleman at the gate that seemed to have been too warm as well.  Boy I am glad that I was carrying water.  Didn?t see many that did and there were no water stations that I saw along the route.

The last k went pretty smoothly.  I just kept pace and the stop lights in sight so one foot in front of the other and soon we were heading for the water and the finish line.  What a hoot.  Jane and Heather were there to meet me with smiling faces and camera running.  I was happy with my time of 57:06 so can?t complain.  Soon after we hopped in the car to go shopping.  Robin needed a pair of sandles as hers got stuck in the muck getting the canoe out.

We spent the rest of the day following the groups around from transition point to transition point.  What a lot of fun.  We finished our day on Baker?s Island again for a burger and juice followed by awards.   Thanks ladies for another entertaining and memorable day of running in the sun.  Must do it again next year.

Pictures and videos to follow.

It WAS a great day!  The people that couldn't be out there for the whole event missed a lot of fun!  Congratulations to Tri & Run 1 who won the Ladies Division!  You guys did a great job!  Heck, we did a great job too!!  We really couldn't have asked for better weather, could we??

Thanks to everyone on our team.  Cathy, you did a great job on the first leg!  Yes, thank goodness for Sandy drilling it into us that we must ALWAYS carry water!  You would think that people who are employed in Fitness and Sports would still clue in that (1) It is June 2 and could be hot; and (2) If you have a 10K event, it would be beneficial to the athletes to provide at least two water stations.  How hard is it to make a water station?

Cathy and Mary Ann at the start line

Robyn and Donna, you guys did a great job in the canoe!!  Robyn, thanks for giving up a shoe for the event!!  I can't believe you guys actually went in that guck at the shoreline!!  And I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of those sexy green $1.00 flipflops we got.  (Dollarama Rocks!)

Elizabeth, you must have flown up and down those hills of Stockdale, because it seemed like you were in Frankford in no time!!

Here's Elizabeth waiting patiently with Joanne for the canoe team to come in!

Thanks Robyn for navigating those treacherous trails out there on your mountain bike.  I saw what they were like and I don't know how you guys did it!  You look like you have been through a war zone!

Mackenzie, I'm afraid we didn't get a photo of you swimming, since it was too hard to do through the viewing window.  But you did great!!  We really needed you on our team to keep the combined age under something like 350!!

Suzy-Q, you did a great job of running the 6.5K and 3.5K!  Wow, when you came running up that hill on Bakers Island, you looked so strong and HAPPY!  (maybe because it was over???).  This one at the Canex came out better though.

Heather, thanks for driving us around and taking photos!  It was great to have you out there with us.  I am sorry about your red nose!

Petra, I know you weren't on my team (I finally figured out WHO was), but thanks for those bug bracelets!  I don't know if there were a lot of bugs out there (because I was running so fast  rolleyes) but they seemed to work!  I am really sorry about the trail not living up to your expectations.   tongue  But it WAS fun - even if I did get my shoe sucked off!!  And even if we DID get muddy up to our knees (and more).

Now for the "other" team - the winners!  OK Patti, I know you didn't really mean to stack your team, but it does look funny!!   laugh laugh  You girls deserved to win.  Too bad they didn't have some kind of nice prize like last year though.  Here is a photo of the winning team.

And here are some other action shots of the "winners" and the "second place" ladies team.

Great mother/son photo:

You guys are so fast - running, posting race reports, posting pictures.
Great reports Cathy and Jane, great pictures Heather.
Today was a lot of fun, even with the wonderfully muddy trail run.
Congratulations to everyone, you did awesome, especially Nancy and Robin, the cross country bikers!!
Running in the mud was hard enough but biking?!?
We have to do it again next year.

Congrats to Tri & Run 1.  What a blast that was.  I was surprised with how fast everyone was, but I suppose with all of us being runners, I shouldn't be.

Here's a report from my section of the course.  I can't believe how much fun I had even when I was slip sliding away in the mud holes, riding and pushing my bike through the dirty water, and struggling up the hills.  At the last hill, I had climbed about 20 feet of it, pushing my bike, but ended up falling down and sliding on my stomach to the bottom.  At the time, I was a bit ticked off with myself so I dragged my bike up the hill by the front wheel, cursing all the way.  (I guess I have a lot more strength when I'm swearing.)  Looking back now, I think it was pretty funny, but not at the time.  Near the mid-point off the course, I crossed a large stream of cold, clear water and it took all the discipline I had not to drink it or lie down in to cool off.  There wasn't any breeze in the bush and the mosquitos were terrible, but I guess that's the incentive to keep moving.  I don't think I've ever been that dirty.  My mother was home when I went back for a shower and wouldn't let me in the house before she hosed my down.

I truly had a fun and dirty time with you all, and I'm looking forward to doing this again next year.  Maybe it won't be so muddy. roflmaob

Hard to believe that Nancy can make herself look like that on purpose!  She is such a funny girl!

I too had a great time.  My team did great.  They were all awesome.  Especially the two ladies in the canoe, I'm so proud of them.
It was so great to see everyone there too from the running group!
You guys did spectacular!

Hey Guys,
I had a great time, even providing the comic releif at the start of the bike ( I had forgotten all about that until Nancy reminded me  embarrassed laugh).  The bike was good, tough but not too tough, I really worked up those hills though.  I just kept thinking of Joanne counting out 15 #$%&  hills, i thought I was at 5 and still had a long way to go, but apparently I can;t bike and count at the same time, because Iwas on the last hill  laugh.  It was a pretty uneventful ride, except for my chain falling of, and me falling over ( Sandy do you have a clinic for getting your feet out of those clips, or maybe I needed Heather repeating to me "Janet clip out"), but I wasn't hurt (other than my pride), and got away in no time.  I've never had my chain comeoff before,a nd I think it was because of Jane jinxing me with all that talk about spare tubes and such.
So thenI flew into Frankfurd, didn't slow down out all, thought "if I get a speeding ticket I will have to frame it, and the cops will have to follow me to the transition area as I'm in a race damnit!"  But no cops, and I made it in one piece, and saw Petra fly off into the woods!
Great day, great company, and an all around good time.  Sign me up for next year!

Janet

P.S A great big thanks to Jane amd Patti for organizing it!  Great job

I have to say I had a a really good time. The bike up Stockdale Rd is always hard, but the weather was beautiful and I knew I had all those smiling faces waiting for me at the finish line.
Thank-you to Patti and Jane for organizing the day, and thanks to everyone on both teams for providing support and friendship throughout.

Jane taught me that for the website you need a photobucket account to put the photos on here.  I just had too many of them so decided to use the yahoo to post all of them then the thread is not so crowded.  Usually the photobucket photos come out pretty good on here.  But I think that I am going to have to forget trying to upload movies.  It takes forever then I crash in the middle of it and in the process I am slowing everyone in the house down.
