Here I thought that last years race was emotional.  Leave it to Sandy to include so many of us on an amazing roller coaster ride!!  I wouldn't have missed this for anything.  The weather was perfect. No rain just sunshine and cool in the evening.
It is just amazing to witness the strength that all of these ultra marathoners have, but it is more touching and exciting to watch and support a very close family member through this type of event.
As always Sandy showed nothing but courage and determination through her thirty hour run.
It began at 6am on Sat. and she finished at 11:45am on Sunday. (15 mins before the cut off)
She also won third in her age category.  There were 40 people that began that race and only 30 finished.
Robyn was Sandy's first pacer and did a great job throughout, making jokes and keeping her going. She was a riot to hang out with and kept everyone's spirits up. Jeff joined in at 3:30am and took her through her next loop, and brought her in in good spirits knowing that she had 4 1/2 hrs to complete her last 20km loop.  Keon lead her through the last loop at 7:30am.  Nick drove Jeff out to meet them part way out on the course to help her get in. It was great to watch the two of them carefully guiding her through the trail and helping her up and down some of the terrain.  At one point Keon was in front of Sandy holding her hands and Jeff was behind supporting her backside helping her up the most difficult part of the course known as the gully. Robyn and I waited at the point where she would have only 1 mile left with some food and drinks for her.  We met and chatted with some of the other runners and offered them beverages and food from our supply bag.  The neat thing about these people is that to most of them it is not a race.  They enjoy talking to people and a sincerely appreciative of the positive comments that are passed their way.
Nancy and Lynda (dumb and dumber) were also there supporting and keeping spirits high with their smiles and wit.
Of course Ryann was there to meet Sandy at the finish with a big hug.  The two of them are off to York University right now for Ryann to compete at OFFSA for tennis. I'm sure Sandy's feet look alot better now after all the work Nick did on them at the end of the race.  Jane has some great shots of her blisters.
Alot of excitement, cheering, and tears, were shared at the end.
I'm sure I speak for everyone Sandy when I say congratulations on your feat. (no pun intended) We are all so proud of you and pleased to call you a friend.  It was also so nice to have so many people there that Sandy has inspired and supported over the years.
On closing I have two things left to say.  Sandy, I hope you were truely serious and that you are never doing
this again!! And thanks for the RIDE !!!

Thanks so much for this update Patti, I only wish that I could have been there to see our girl at the end. She is amazing and an inspiration to so many.  I am so proud to know such an amazing athlete and person.  I had a call from her this evening, as she knew that I would be thinking of her, and that meant so much to me.  What a great group effort, and I know that Sandy appreciates everyone's effort.  She tells me that is her final 100 miler and I hope she was serious, but I will still meet her in the woods in January or February for a trail run just for the fun of it.  What a ride and when is the celebration!!!?????

Thanks again Patti,

Jo

I wrote this before I saw Patti's post...

So as everybody knows, Sandy completed her 100 miler today and we were lucky enough to be there when she came over the finish line!  It is hard to describe how everyone felt seeing her come over the finish line.  All I can say was there were quite a few tears from everyone.  She looked sooo strong at the finish and we were all sooo proud of her.  It just gave me goosebumps watching the 100 milers finish.  I cannot even imagine.

Congratulations, Sandy!!!  You are amazing... an inspiration to all... (Not that we would ever do 100 miles)

We will let her tell you all about her race in her race report when she gets back from Toronto.  I am sure she has lots to tell   wink

We have pictures and a video to come...

Also, it was great to hang out with everyone at the RV.  Got to catch up with Nancy and Linda and had the pleasure of meeting Keon.

I can't add much more to what everyone else has to say, except I was glad that I we were there to see Sandy fulfill this dream that she has had (even though I am sure it felt like a nightmare at several points throughout the 29 + hours).

There was a man who was running this race named Fred Davis III.  While we were waiting for Sandy to come in, we were talking to his wife was there cheering for him and she said to us, "Sandy is such a nice person and she is lucky to have so many friends out here cheering for her."  My reply to her was that we were the lucky ones.  I told her that Sandy was an amazing person and a wonderful mentor to so many of us in the Trenton/Belleville area.  She has inspired us to set goals, work hard and has been there with us when we achieved them.  Personally, I have been so fortunate -- she took our running group to our very first official 10K race back on 1999.  She ran my very first half marathon with me back in 2000, coaching me through it and convincing me that I could do it even though for the last few kilometers I doubted that she was right.  She ran my second half marathon with me in January 2005 at Disney, cutting 15 minutes off my previous time.  Sandy has been there for so many of us and has touched us and changed our lives.

Sandy, after having you there for so many of my achievements, it was great to see you earn that 100-mile belt buckle!  I hope your blisters heal quickly (and that you meant it when you said "never again" wink)

Wow!
That's pretty much how I feel.  Reading about Sandy's accomplishment got me all choked up inside, my only regret is that I wasn't there to see her cross the finish line (silly triathlons  tongue).  I'm glad to hear that she did it, and 3rd in her age group.  I agree with everything everyone said, Sandy is so supportive and motivational for us all.  No matter what our racing level, or running abilities she's always there to encourage us, advise us, and tell us to "never say never" (hmm in this case I hope Sandy's never do a 100 miler again is true laugh).  So I just have to say thanks Sandy for being such a inspiration to so many people, and for always being you!

INCREDIBLE,  A very moving race report.  It brought me to tears, reading everyones posts.

Look Sandy.  Look at how many people you have moved, motivated and inspired.  You not only achieved an ultimate goal in your life, you've changed others around you.

That is an amazing feat as well.

If the report brought you to tears, her finishing video is now on Adam's site on page 17 of the Sulphur Springs photos.  You have to wait for it to load.  It will take a couple minutes.  It's just amazing!

Sandy, what an incredible achievement.  Congratulations.  Like everyone else said, you have inspired so many people, what an amazing accomplishment.  I hope that you will enjoy the next few days watching Ryann compete.

Great race report, Patti.  I couldn't look at the video yet but the pictures will do it, bringing you to tears that is.  It is great to see everyone there for support.
