Hi everybody!!, first off i`d like to congratulate everyone on their races this past weekend, from what i`ve read , all are alive and well, and a big wow to those who now can call themselves marathoners!!, i ran my first marathon last fall, i know how you feel..ughh..And Derek, we`ve never met but holy smokem on your first half buddy, my best was in February in a time of 1:39, so i know how you have to focus yourself to do it in this kind of time, im impressed for sure, i hope to meet you some day.Well Ganaraska for those who have never gone...IT WAS GREAT!!, i don't know if Sandy has been or not, but it`s a tough trail to be on, we did the 25k, but a 50k was ran at the same time, 70 in our race and around 37 or so did the 50k, { far cry from Mississauga!!}, the terrain was similar to our trail run in Bata, you know the part when were at the top from walking the big hill at the start, well from there to the part where Sandy stops to wait for us, well that part resembles about 70% of the run, but the rest will get ya!!, hills so big that running is out of the question..walkers...some i ran on a side stride like Sandy showed me,but the majority were walked, one was made out of sand, located between 2 dunes..way cool!!!, and some were so long it took 15 mins to walk them{ fast walk}, we went over stumps, rocks, over head dead trees, fallen trees, and mud...lots of it in places { jane would love the mud }, going down these hills was to say...freaky, this is the first time that my toes felt like they were coming through the front of my shoes!!! { CUT THE NAILS B4 U GO!! }, and trail people know how to eat!!, i was getting to full to run, there were bagels, croissants, bananas, oranges, jube jubes, and gummie bears, it was a feast every 5k, and it was so quiet, at a moment my friend Brian and myself were all alone..you could hear a pin drop..no cars, horns, highway noise, no people sound at all, we were deep into a beautiful ultra clean forest, not even a gum wrapper on the ground, we left the woods the same as we found it, i was so happy to see this out here, i didn't want to run any faster than i was but all the sugar took over and i got ahead of Brian, he was talking with Helen Scissions, she was doing the 50k, so i took off on my own, and yep!!!, got a little lost, but so were some others, its not hard to stray out there, but i ran up to some runnersd and followed them, so with all our jumping over, through, and around i still did a good timing of 2:32:06 for a 25k, and finished in good health and spirits, smiling through the finish line, it was one of the funnest and tough runs that i`ve been in, i`m definitely a fan of trail running, next me and the Brian are headed to Sulphur Springs for the 25k there, it was a weekend for racing wasn`t it??..David Storey. grin cool

Hey Snowrunner,
Sounds like you had a great time, but then I think you always do grin.  Sounds like a nice but tough trail run, maybe something to look at in the far future  cheesy!  So did you get any pictures taken, or will they just be a blur,as that was an amazing time for a trail run.

Well Dave, it sounds like you had a wonderful time.  Everything you could want.  Can't wait for what pics you did get.  You certainly had a lovely day weather wise if it was anything like us here.  Was it sunny and warm?

I am glad that your first went so well.  Now you are going to be hooked on these trail runs for sure.

Congratulations on a great finish.

Great report Dave.  Very accurate descriptions.  Sara and I ran the 25 as well.  The sandhill was pretty neat.  The harder you tried to run, the slower you went.  And didn't you love the 20km marker at the top of the ski-lift, having just run the toughest hill on the course.  It just didn't end.  All great fun!

They have a few pictures up of the finish line at http://ouser.org/photos/06/ga/index.php?menu=1 , but they don't do it justice.  Will look forward to seeing your pics too.

The trails were just beautiful and I would second the notion that if you haven't run there before, you should definately put it on your 'must do' trail list for next year!

Yeah!!, i laughed out loud when i came through the woods to see the top of the ski lift, i dont think that when your in the woods you really know how high you really climb, but on this run we were going up all the time. And nope, the pic`s they have don`t give you the flavour of being there, definately going back next year, hopefully with a car load of these guys!!!.  grin cool
