Shannon, you should talk to Sandy or Elizabeth.   Maybe they can give you direction -- they are both running half marathon clinics starting soon, and ran 10K clinics last year.  I am not sure how much personal training either of them are doing, but you could check it out.  Or come out on our weekly trail runs and you can probably gloam a whole lot of info there from everyone else's experiences.

Snowrunner, what is the longest distance you have done so far?  You could probably train and run the 50K at the Run for the Toad on 1 October.  It is a great run!!  This is the last year's website still, but you can check it all out at:  www.runforthetoad.com.  Nine months should be long enough to get ready!!

Moose, I hope you achieve both your goals of breaking 40 min on the 10K and qualifying for Boston.  It sounds like you are well on your way.  I wish I had started running sooner, but reading your post almost made me glad I don't have a "past performance standard" to live up to!

Shannon, you most definitely can run a half-marathon if that's your goal.  From my perspective, once the training is done, it becomes a mental challenge.  It can be somewhat intimidating at the Start line, but just remember to run your own race at your own pace, and do it for yourself.

The furthest i`ve gone was 45k, in a training pace, and yep i was eyeballing the toad, it looks awesome, i will see how it goes, my biggest obstacle will be transfornibg my body from running strickly roads to trails, gotta work on some muscle groups for that, but yep, the toad looks like my kind of critter... cool David S.

Thanks guys, for your input.  I checked out the links Jane sent me and they are great!  I found quite a few routines to follow.  Now it's time to set up a date for my goal!
I wish I could come out the days that you guys do run.  However, my job takes most of my time (short on manning) and what I do have left, I dedicate to my son's active life..skating, swimming, karate (same night as tues. run).  I always manage to get my own runs in, usually when Jacob goes to school.
I would love to run on the weekend at 6:30am, however childcare not available then. Thats the life of single parenting. (Don't get me wrong, I'm loving it too, it just has it's limitations).
I will make my best effort to come out and pick everyone's brains when I can.
I'll drop in and see what Sandy and Elizibeth have to offer too.  Thanks a bunch! :icon_jokercolor:

When picking brains, ask first before going through the nose.

Regret nothing, even the bad parts contributed to your arrival in this spot, and if dirt is down, then you're still winning.  Keep racing.
