You are now in full taper mode, being careful to follow your program and not adding in extra workouts as you start to feel rested. ?It is wise at this point to think ahead to race weekend and organize the following:
You must pick up your race kit either Friday night or Saturday. ?When you get it home attach your bib to your shirt or hydration belt. ?Set out all of your clothing and running shoes.
Friday night is the important nights sleep. ?You will not sleep well on Saturday night so plan to go to bed at your usual time. ?Spend Saturday doing little as this is not a good time to cut an acre of grass on foot or shopping till you drop.
If you are unsure of what to wear remember to dress as if it is 10 degrees warmer. ?If it is going to be in the double digits, even 10 or 11 can be warm if the sun is out. ?To start wear a short sleeve shirt with a long sleeve shirt over top that you can take off as you warm up and wrap around your waist with little bulk or weight. ?If you are a heavy sweater, stick with the short sleeve and wear gloves. ?Magic gloves work best as you can pitch them or if you lose one it?s no big deal. ?If you want to wear shorts but it is cool, slathering your legs with Vaseline which acts as an insulator keeping the heat in. ?This works even at 0 degrees.
If you are planning to stick around at the finish, or if you have a distance to travel have those meeting you bring an extra pair of shoes or sandals, a dry shirt (and bra for the ladies) as well as a fleece or jacket and maybe gloves and a hat.
Immediately after finishing get something to eat and drink, even if it?s just a couple of bites. ?STRETCH and have a massage. ?
