Is anybody out there planning on running this event this coming March?
I am new to it, but seriously considering it.
Is anyone day tripping it or do you (have to) stay that night over.
Thanks for the input!

Hi Kate,

Kit pickup is on the Sat only, so most from your area overnight it, as the drive is to much to do twice back to back (which is what I usually do, and its still an pain in the butt for me).  I am not sure if I will be racing it, but I have done it a few times, and highly recommend it.  It is a challenging, but fair course - flat to gentle downhill first 10km, some small rollers, and then from about 17km on you get some hills, with the best one around 26km (read biggest=best).  Spectators can wait indoors, and watch you finish on the big screen inside the arena, which is great if the weather is ugly - which it can be.

Cheers.

I am thinking about doing that race as well.

Hi Kate, there are a few people thinking of going.  The ONLY way I will do it is as a day trip which I have done many times, the only hitch is you need someone to pick up your race kit on Saturday.  I'm considering doing it and would be driving up and back on Sunday and you would be welcome to join me.  I will decide in the next week or so as I would suggest you do as well, ATB fills very early.

I would also book a hotel room sooner rather than later.  You can always cancel.  The ones downtown fill up pretty quickly.  The Sheraton is the race hotel and I've stayed there but quite a few years ago.  They went and turned our favourite, the Staybridge, into a retirement residence.   angry

Hi Kate

I did it last year and will again this year. I loved it! Pretty flat in the first half, more challenging in the second half and the one big hill towards the end but by that time you're almost done so no big deal.
I go Saturday and stay over. You can pick up your race kit, browse the exhibitor booths at Copps Colliseum and have a relaxing evening and race morning, rather than facing that long drive from here early on Sunday morning. The hotels do get fully booked early so best not to wait too long.

I love ATB ! Great distance with awesome hill near the end. Once you get to the top, gravity and cheering pull you all the way to the finish. They have a good expo too. I agree with registering early and definately get a room soon. Last year I registered before Christmas and could not get a room. I ended up staying with my sister in law in Oakville then she stayed to watch and shop. I would definately do it again!

Thank you EVERYone for your feedback and encouragement!   smiley

I am all registered for the 30K run (right now my brain is saying YIKES!) and I am looking forward to adding a "household name" to my list of accomplishments.

April and I have booked a room at the Sheraton for Saturday night and have room for at least one more person if anyone is interested.

Happy training and I look forward to seeing you there!!

Kim and I are going to drive with Sandy on Sunday. Kim is not doing the run but will be spectating.

Just got my relay team entered, spots seem to be filling quickly, and my room booked at the race hotel, which has sold out of race rate rooms evil, so the racer who hesitates might be out of luck bongbong
