Thanks Sandy.  What a rush.  I needed some help near the end as those of us not in the breakaway couldn't get organized enough to catch the leaders.  Tony & Jeff....  where were you guys!  The buggers behind me just sat on my wheel for the last 5K, not willing (or able) to pull.  Fortunately I had enough in the tank to put a small gap on them prior to the finish.  Nothing worse than being passed by someone you dragged along in the last 100 feet.  Also lost some time in the final descent down the very steep scenic caves road where my nerves (and speed wobble) wouldn't let me get above 80Km/Hr.  Need to investigate what's going on with that.  Perhaps the ZIPP wheels????  I'm still very inexperienced with a lot of these aspects.  Much to learn.  Overall a fantastic day with first place in age category (out of 163) and 12'th overall in a field riddled with talent.  Can't recommend this event highly enough for those interested in a Gran Fondo type race.

But wait.. the seasons far from over!

I'm planning on attending the Niagara preview event on October 2'nd.  This is a FREE event consisting of great food and an organized 50 Mile preview ride of next years course.  Based on the Lake George New York ride I participated in earlier this year this is a no brainer.  Registration is limited to the first 300 applicants, so get in on the fun early.  You can register on the Centurion website (under the Niagara banner).  Although not a formal race, you can be assured that a break will form as bragging rights are always at stake.  Did I mention it's FREE!  Perfect opportunity to combine a little Niagara wineries tour with a high class cycling event.  Hope to see some of the T&R gang there.

Cheers for now,

Chris grin

That sounds like an awesome opportunity unfortunately that is the same say as the County Marathon.  We are a sponsor, expo participant and run the finish line.  Also a number of our runners if not in the County event do Run for the Toad the day before.  Sounds like we will have to enjoy this event vicariously through you!

Wow! 12th out of 1216. Phenomenal job. You're raising the bar on every event you've done.

It's gotta have something to do with the car wink

Nice race Chris. That was a great result. Only if I had a road bike I would be glad to join you in niagara.

Chris: Darryll and I had tossed around doing the 100mile in Collingwood but in the end decided to torture our digestive systems at the cottage last weekend instead.  shocked

All part of a balanced life Peter.  Good on ya for taking some down time.  Perhaps next year we'll meet up for one of the 4 events of the Centurion series.  I'd love to train and team ride with some like minded people for this event giving the podium another shot.  If we could sustain (team) speeds like last nights ride from the store we'd be at the finish line drinking margaritas waiting for the rest of the field!

Hope to see you out again in the coming weeks.

Tempting but I'm away riding in the Gatineau's that weekend. Though it sounds like it would be a blast. I guess I'm going to have to put some serious time on the computrainer this winter so that Team Bumblebee will be ready to crush the Centurian field next season.   shocked Sounds especially fun if we could get 1/2 dozen or so guys committed to work together just like in the pro races all working to put one guy on the podium. I think I'd make a good Domestique or at least Janet says I do. (but I guess, laundry and dishes are different than cycling).
Peace
Peter
