I know there were many people from the area who made the trip to Ottawa this past weekend to take part in the 4th Annual Army Run.  More than 15 000 people took part in either the 5k or Half Marathon events.  The day was perfect.  Sun was shining, and pretty much perfect running conditions in the Nation's Capital.

This year's route was different from last year, and for those who took part last year and remember that brutal climb around the 14k mark there was no such beast this time around.  I wouldn't say the course was flat, but the ascent and descent overall about equalled out.  It certainly was a great course in my opinion, and nearly every inch of it was surrounded by cheering fans.

For myself, this was the target race of the year.  With a great summer of Duathlon's and solid training I had a good feeling going in that my target time was well within reach.  I was shooting for sub 1:35 which alone would have beaten my previous PB by a few mins.  I'm not sure if it was the crowd, the solid season leading up or the cow print arm sleeves that Patti suggested and I proudly wore throughout, but I was able to run a very strong solid race coming in at 1:31:08, almost 4 mins on the good side of the target and over 8 mins ahead of the previous PB.  It sure felt good after!

I also want to shout out a big congratulations to another local runner and co-worker who participated in his first half marathon.  For a rookie, he sure made things seem pretty easy out there finishing in an amazing 1:27:31!  Way to go Adrian!

Wow, you guys are FAST!  Congratulations to both on a great race.  Shelley told me that the new course was a very nice route.  Wish this race wasn't the same weekend as Sandbanks.  I have a special commitment to Sandbanks.
