What would you do if you knew you could not fail?  So often we aspire to do new things but we don?t because they move us outside our comfort zone.  Albert Einstein said Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results.  So...it may be time for you to venture out of the security of what?s known if you want to check some boxes on your bucket list.
You don?t need to jump into your new task with both feet, breaking the learning curve up into bite size pieces makes learning much less scary.  So if drinking water while cycling freaks you out practice riding for a short time with one hand off the handlebars, next progress to touching your water bottle, then removing it from the holder and finally taking a sip.  This could take you a couple of rides to a month of riding so go at your own pace.  Finding a mentor, partner or training group can also be helpful.  With a caring, knowledgeable person to guide you learning a new skill seems easier.  Having proper equipment can make the difference between enjoying a new sport and having to muscle through but borrowing what you need may make the most sense in the short term while you are determining if this event is for you.
Choosing the longest or hardest race available does not make sense if fear has gotten in your way so go for the shortest version to let you ?taste? what you?re in for.  Long events are fine if you participate in the relay option so you can do a smaller portion while getting an overall sense and flow of the complete event.
If triathlon or duathlon is something you have been thinking about Tri & Run Sports has begun a series of tester races done in a fun format over a short distance.  These events are fun, safe and non-competitive so they allow you to test your new skills.  Call Tri & Run Sports for details 613-392-7752.
What would you do if you knew you would not fail?

Great to see the Quinte area people had a fantastic long weekend of events.

Just a correction for one Sandy, I was in the Dual Sprint (2/20/5) not the Tri Sprint, although I think on that day anyone who was in the water had the right idea to try and keep cool!

Somewhere in the world, someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.
