Kids "marathon"

How do we motivate the school authorities to play it up, so to speak?  What about talking to municipal event coordinators to look at including something like this in their annual events calendar?  Our tax dollars pay these people to come up with ideas to promote a number of community things - perhaps they'd weave something like this in, as well??  Perhaps Chamber of Commerce groups?  they always try to draw in new industry, etc. by showing off how much is in a municipality...
