Enjoyed reading your race report Jon.  Also adored the photo of your new baby and the big shoe further down.

Thanks Nancy!

I should take another shot of Ollie with that shoe, because he is growing like crazy!

Great report Jon,
Even more impressed with the result after reading about the abdominal pain that affected you during the run.
Did you figure out what the cause of it ended up being.
Great display of guts (no pun intended) and determination.
Cheers,

@ Bryan - Thanks bro. It definitely hurt, but thankfully I was able to keep moving and get it done.  The short answer to the 'what happened' question, as best as I can figure, is too many calories in the body over the first 3-5 miles of the run, and not enough water in the system to aid in absorption. I likely could have tried to take in some even more water over the last part of the bike to give a better 'water base' for absorption.  Live and learn...

@Peter - Not yet and not too likely, though I want to.  I think I'll mix it up a bit and stay shorter (maybe a half IM and such) and work on the speed more...  Its as much a change for my family, as anything else :)  But I do wish I was having another go...  St George is the only WTC IM still open for next year (its reportedly, ridiculously hard course is the reason for that).  Apart from that option, its qualifying at a 70.3 somewhere, and I think this year I'll go a less expensive racing route ;-)  What are you thinking of doing?

@ Pattie - thanks for reading along!  Hope to have a visit soon.

Jon,
So many things to do so little time...

I'm thinking of a little more MTB focus next year, no events planned as of yet though I would like to check a completed 24hr race off the bucket list. ;)

Peace

Pete,

Is there any 1 website that has a list of the mountain bike races in Ontario or are they all independent events that you just need to know about?  I was just wondering... you know just in case I feel like going into something different down the road  wink

Cheers,
Jon

G'day Jon,

Chico racing run a lot of the O-cups (short course race series), a few 8 hr mtb events, and two 24hr events one in June and one in August
http://www.chicoracing.com/html/index.php

For a complete listing of all events (Road/MTB/Cross/BMX/DH) sanctioned by the Ontario Cycling Association has a event calendar on the OCA website.
http://www.ontariocycling.org/web_pages/sch_schedule.php

If you are so inclined you might even consider doing one of the longer events with me as a tag team. I'm not fast but I seem to be able to go a long time.
A couple years ago Bob&I, Jeff&Dennis, Woody&Nick, Keon&Den, Rich&Cal did the J&J 8hr mtb event as tag teams it was a hoot. 4 of us have done a couple 8hr races as 4 man teams as well.

Peace

@ Jeff - Thanks brother!

@ Rohnda - I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed reading it!  I have enjoyed and learned a few things from reading other race reports, so I decided a while ago to share my experiences, so your feedback will help motivate me to keep sharing  grin

@ Pete - Thanks for the info.  The main thing holding me back form those adventures is acquiring a mountain bike.  If I do, I will post here ASAP, and make myself available to be suckered.... I mean 'hooked' in!

@  A moderator or Sandy - Just a thought... Have you considered making it a form function to be able to respond to individual postings, so as to avoid doing what I have done on this post.  You just need a reply button on each post, and then when a person wants to comment to them specifically they just hit it and it connects them.  If someone wants to make a general comment to the post, they just hit the reply button on the OP (original posters) post.  You can even have it so that the person is notified (via email) when someone writes to them.  Not a biggie, but it would keep it easier/cleaner and may add to the forum chat, with the ease of communication.
