I've been biking quite a bit (MTB) since my running isn't going so well, but also working on that..

Anyway, I finally got my husband to join me, he gets a sore bottom, I looked around the net and believe it is his sitz bones.  I too had some pain initially but got used to it after a few rides.

Any advice, he is ready to give up already after only 2 rides! and he needs to become more active.

The pain in your butt you feel from biking will become less as you bike more....but if it is really bothering have Colleen at Tri and Run assess his seat and the height of the seat. If the seat is not fitting him right it will cause pain and if the height of the seat is not set it will also make it very uncomfortable.
I don't know if it ever will be a total pleasure riding (maybe with mountain bike)...not sure if you just become accustomed to the sensation but it does get better.
Cheers,
Bryan

Hey Nancy,  you sure he isn't just making excuses so he doesn't have to ride anymore LOL   - just kidding,  not fun to have a sore bottom

Well I pushed him to try a few more rides before investing in a new seat...but he came home with a new one, it is sorta squarish shaped, no front triangular piece..he seems to think that will do the trick, I am not convinced. lol Glo you may be right lol new seat and all and I went alone today lol tongue (hey I looks up those rootbeer drinks, yummmy - I have to try one)

Bryan thanks, I will have him take the route of Colleen if his new seat doesn't do the trick, he was determined to figure this out on his own though...but I am betting he just needs to get a few rides in and work the muscles he hasn't in years and it will get better and or he will get used to it to a degree.

I am glad I got him out - I hope he gives it a sincere shot.

I'd SO love to buy a road bike, but heading back to school in the fall so I will be on the MTB for a bit yet, but that is OK, its all attitude - I will do what I can and give it my best and one day I will be in great shape for more toys.

Thanks folks,
Nancy

Hey Nancy.
I know what it's like trying to get the better half out there doing something ... ANYTHING!
I think you have a good point ... so long as he thinks it's on his terms, he'll keep plugging along with you.

Got him out for another ride with his new seat, he did ok, said it was more comfy, so we will see...hopefull it holds up.

Getting him out for a hike today, he says he is going back to work - it is not as tiring!

LOL
