Here is a link to some cycling basics. It also covers traffic laws pertaining to cycling and safety requirements.

do you ever notice that it's the folks that DON'T exercise that are the meanest  - no respect for riders or runners,   I think they are just jealous !!!!

It is just all the pent up energy that can't be released from their bodies because they don't do any activity...that is why they are so mean and angry!!!

According to the law every bike has to have a working bell or horn. So my next question is, Sandy do you sell bells and/or horns?

As far as I know it's a bi-law in Toronto only...but yes.

The "Bell or Horn" requirement is Ontario wide. The fine is $85 to $110.

Although this law is well intentioned, using one's voice is often much more effective.

It's unlikely to get a ticket for this, but anything is possible. Apparantly if you do get a ticket, you can purchase a bell afterwards and show the receipt to the judge who should nullify the fine.

I got a free one a few years ago when we did the Heart & Stroke ride.  I like to use it to alert people that I am coming. I used it last Sunday actually when we were out for our ride to signal to some kids on Barcoven Beach Road that we were approaching them.  Kids tend to be in their own little worlds and like to turn suddenly and ride out in front of you.  Come to think if it, adults do too.
