I just wanted to say this was a great event that was hosted by Teresa and her husband at JB Printing! I learned a lot today and brought home papers so I can read more about sarcoma. I hope I never need to know more, but I am now aware that it exists. Cassandra's (I think this was her name) story about her brother was very touching and sad. Teresa's talk about the support she received while sick was also very moving.
On a happy note, we had a great time, walking all over Trenton picking up fact sheets and reading them. That also educated us as well. We got to go into businesses that we had never entered before. We got to check out the cheesecake at The Grind! We had lemonade and squares at the Seasons Dufferin. We visited with Patti & Nick at Tri and Run! After walking the 6 kms, we ate BBQ'd roast beef on a bun (DELICIOUS!) and bought treats from a bake table. And from the entry forms on the fact sheets that we got to deposit for a chance to win a door prize, Heather won a $25 Tomasso's gift certificate and I won a $10 Quinte Mall GC with a few other little goodies. All for just a donation!
I would definitely do this event again, and would even pay a registration fee! It was a lot of fun while at the same time educating us on Sarcoma.

Awesome, glad you had fun. Looked like a well populated event, just wished we had the energy to participate. Next year there won't be an ironman to train for!

Nick and I had fun volunteering at it. I was so surprised yet so pleased to see so many people come out and support the event. Hopefully they do it again next year.

Sandy or anyone...what are the details on the Ironman some of you are training for? I find it all fascinating.
Thanks, Nancy

Nancy,
An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike and a marathon (26 miles 385 yards, 42.195 km) run, raced in that order and without a break. Most Ironman events have a strict time limit of 17 hours to complete the race, where the Ironman race starts at 7 AM, the mandatory swim cut off for the 2.4 mile swim is 2 hours 20 minutes, the bike cut off time is 5:30 PM, and all finishers must complete their marathon by midnight.
Most of the Big Ring Gang are training for Ironman Canada, Tara a local finished IM Lake Placid yesterday in 11:41:45 was 17th out of 119 in her age group and finished 627th out of 2611 competitors. There are a few others doing IM Wisconsin and IM Florida as well.
All of these events have a few coveted qualifying spots for the IM world championships in KONA Hawaii each October.
Peace Peter

Thanks Peter. I find it all fascinating and very exciting. Amazed at what humans with a heap of training are capable of. The best to you all competing for Ironman Canada and congratulations to Tara, awesome work. Nancy
