Peter?s Epic Ride 2010

G?day Guys,

I have been scouting out roads for a few weeks now and I have pretty much gotten the routes figured out. Lots of low traffic back roads with some nice local scenery, the routes will be mostly be of varied terrain, so you won?t typically be able to just let your mind go numb and keep pedaling along, just putting in distance.

Here is what is happening for the Epic Ride at the end of the month. For the first time the ride will take place over 2 days, Saturday July 31st, and Sunday Aug 1st.

The first day will be a more aggressive ride, if you are able to maintain an average speed of 30km/h over challenging terrain over the distance you planning on joining in on you?ll be fine. The first loop of the day will be about 150-160km, and Janet will be meeting us for a support stop at about 100km into the loop where snacks and fluids will be available. The second loop will be around 90-100km. We will be using my brother-in-laws home in Norham as the command centre and this is where we will be launching from and looping back out from. We will be leaving 6:30am sharp, Ready to Ride at 6:30am nuff said.

The second day will be at a more relaxed pace as we will be a bit tired from the day before. It again will use the Norham location as the start/stop point but leaving at 7:00am. The first loop will be about 120km and the second loop around 90km. As Saturday the terrain will be scenic but challenging but the pace easier.

Riders can join in at any point they want, the second loop on either day has historically been slower than the first for obvious reasons. At the end of the loops there will be snacks and refreshments available. Over the past years there has been as many as over a dozen riders on a loop and as few as just me on a loop but usually around 6 riders. Janet will be keeping her ear close to the phone so that if anyone has a problem or needs assistance she?ll do her best to finds us.

Riders and spouses from either days ride are invited to an after ride feast on Saturday. Typically after the riders from the last loop come in and get cleaned up. Typically around 6:00pm, but it can depend on how the day goes.

As far as weather goes if the weather is bad we will likely just do one loop both days.

Please let me know if you are planning on attending and which day as it will help Janet and I with how much food to plan for at the stops and meal on Saturday.

Peace
Peter

Hey Pete,

I am trying to decide how I will tackle this weekend.  Where do you live?  Can you post some directions?  The logistics of that will play a roll in making the choices.  Thanks!

Jon

PS - I assume the rides start from your place...

G'day Jon,

As posted above the rides will be going from my Brother In-laws place in Norham just south of Warkworth, LAT/LON 44.191559,-77.873497. Just paste the coordinates in Google maps. Grey Brick House with a Blue steel barn.

G'day Jon,

I forgot to mention that if getting to the start on time is an issue, there is still one bed available at my place which you are more than welcome to crash on Friday night. Let me know if you interested.

Peace

Thanks for the invite.  Consider me a for sure for at least the first loop on both days.  Sounds like a lot of fun. Can't wait!

Glad to hear you can make it you'll have a blast. Though I'm not sure what riders like more the interesting routes or Janet's brownies and cookies at the stops.

Glad to hear you guys had a great weekend.  The flat 203k wasn't flat (hey did you know there's a lake on a mountain?  cheesy) and there was a lovely head wind out of the east for the first 113k.  2.5 groups with the guys and Jenn in the lead and the girls and Greg pulling up the rear.  Mark did support for us and did an AWESOME job, met both groups at every stop and Nick, Patti and Beth had BBQ ready when we were done.

G'day Sandy
Looks like the weather gods treated us all well this weekend and we all had a good time. Sure is nice, just to get out ride and have a bunch of like minded individuals to do it all with. Can't figure out what the rest of the world does for fun. The nice thing about the head wind for so long at the first is you likely had lots of tail wind at the finish though it never seems as strong when it's at your back.

Maybe we can get all together again next Sunday for a ride.

Peace
Peter
