The 24th CFB Trenton Surf and Turf was held on Friday June 11th with well over 500 athletes participating as an eight person team, two person team or solo. The course covered over 60k of Quinte West real estate starting with a 7k run, then eight person teams sent two participants out for a 4k canoe while Tinmate teams and Tinpersons paddled 4k in a kayak. After the boats athletes moved onto a 15k road cycle, then a 4k muddy, rolling trail run, a 9k mountain bike then onto a hot, hilly 7.5k run to the Base pool to cool off with a 500m swim and a final ?speedy? 3k run to the finish.
In this edition Tinman Jeff Walsh raced a field of 13 solo athletes getting to the finish line first in 3:10:03 followed by Ray Stockerman in 3:34:50 and Idir Belhoine in 3:42:45. There were no Tinwomen for 2010. In the Tinmate category where each member completes four events, top team was Tim and John Blackwell in 3:05:12 followed closely by Jeff Musson and Dennis Hills in 3:08:14; Gracie Tetzlaff and Michael Murray were top mixed team in 3:21:05 while team Magic Bullettes was top all female team in 3:36:30. Top local eight person all male team was CFLAWC Master Riggers finishing in 3:10:43, YMCA of Quinte West was first mixed team to the line in 3:17:24 and Tri & Run Sports Guns and Roses won fastest all female team in 3:50:11. On June 6th in the rain, the following locals set out to beat the band by reaching the finish line of the Beat Beethoven 8k in Kingston. Garry Carl (42:35), Diane Coates (42:05), Tim Coates (33:54), Jerry Dirocco (47:51), Ed Kooistra (35:54), Janet Foran-Goneau (42:52), Agustin Garcia (42:02), Boyd Kalnay (31:09), Jeff Morton (42:47), Bill Petch (42:15), Joy Petch (44:09), Bryan Waite (36:30), Sarah Boggett (42:31), Jessica Donaldson (47:40), Lisa Brooks (47:36), Jennifer Ford (46:44), Dave Rice (55:55), Kathy Rice (49:09), Lurie Thompson (45:16), David Baker (38:04) and Stacey Berdan (37:51). On the same day in sunny San Diego Sue and Mark Rollins ran/walked their first half marathon in support of Leukemia Team in Training crossing their first finish line in 4:00:39.
At the 5 peaks Durham Forest Trail run Enduro Kim Walsh finished in 1:20:10 and Patrick Foran finished in 53:23 while in the Sport David and Mieke Little finished in 37:09. Catherine Jamieson (1:49:47) and Ruth West (2:07:46) completed the Ottawa Riverkeeper Tri kayak which consisted of a 5k kayak, 20k bike and 5k run. Cheryl Walker raced the 17th Annual Run the Lake 5k in 22:27 and Stacey Berdan completed the MSC Binbrook Tri (750/27/6.5) in 1:49:23.
Join Tri & Run Sports on June 27th for a cycling demo day in support of the Sears Kids Cancer Ride and try out a variety of Scott bikes and Shimano wheels. Ride 30-40k on a mostly flat scenic route then partake in a BBQ. All riding levels welcome.
