What are your favourite foods after you exercise?

After a long workout or a particularily intense workout. Recovery drink (Blueberries, honey, salt, cocoa, Whey protein, and oh ya water) and a Jennies macaroon smoothered in Nut Butter.
Peace Peter

Smoothies are one of my faves. Berries, almond milk, whey powder and kiju juice. Sometimes I change it up by adding honey, or cocoa, or nut butter. If the berries are frozen, it's nice and thick, but if they are fresh, I'll add ice to thicken it.

Most of my workouts happen before breakfast so I usually just eat breakfast. I have more favs during, like boiled potatoes and salt, depending on the length pizza works and toasted pancakes with peanut butter.

Yum, the smoothies sound great. I'd never thought to put salt in my smoothie, but I now understand why. I like almond milk too. If I use unsweetened I suppose it would be ok to add some honey? Oh macaroon smothered in nut butter - drool!! LOL beer and pizza!! cracking up, I could not function, seems some people can get away with alcohol...I can't! yes I did say favourtie didn't I..and funny thing is I actually hesitated on that word... Sandy --pancakes and peanut butter sound really good. Thanks everyone!!

Umm. Sandy. You eat boiled potatoes with salt DURING your run? (and here I am still trying to get used to GU Chomps ...)

Too funny, now I can't get the visual out of my head - where one might store potatoes and a salt shaker while running..

Hey Pete, I think I got jipped at your place today! I got the recovery drink but no macaroon with nut butter. I guess the 190+ K ride was just not enough!

Potatoes had been a staple for long distance cyclists for quite a while during rides. Smallish potatoes baked with the skins stuff into a back jersey pocket handily and are actually quite easy to eat. The great advantage for during exercise is that they are high Glycemic, which for those unfamiliar with the term, means their particular form of starch gets very rapidly absorbed into the system. In the potatoes case most times as fast as or faster as white bread or white sugar.
Not so good as food to eat later after exercise. (post 2hrs) as the rapid absorbtion coupled with an exagerrated insulin response causes fat storage plus many other unhealthy long term physical/hormonal issues.
Peace Peter

LMBO Kate!
I saw those Macaroons at Bulk Barn and almost bought a couple... but sometimes I have little self control... so I left them there lol But now I know where to get them.
Yum potatoes, fresh little ones in the summer, awesome!
I like sweet potatoes too, one of my favourtie foods, in moderation. With olive oil and rosemary, baked..

I am not a big potato eater, but I HIGHLY recommend McCains Sweet Potato Fries (on sale now at Dewe's!). But not the straight cut ones, the crinkle cut ones. They sit on the baking sheet better to cook.
Will have to try them sprinkled with rosemary ... sounds good.
