I'd like to think that I am better than average on my knowledge of nutrition, however when it comes to calories I am finding conflicting info. I know it depends on your level of activity, general health, what you eat/drink, what you weigh etc......however is it feasible to burn approx. 250 calories on a 4-5km run? (for a 125lb 5'4.5 female) I just know after runs I have a protein/carb then within 2 hours I am starved. I am eating plenty good quality foods throughout the day.

Thanks,
Nancy

G'day,

Like you had mentioned so many variables, so it's really hard to nail down. Short answer yes it's possible for you to "burn" 250 Kcal in 4-5 km, if you were running uphill the whole way. But generally for your weight I'd say the number is a little high. I'm about 180lbs, and I usually figure on 50-65 Kcal/km, again depends on a lot of factors, for me 16km/1000Kcal.

Peace

Thanks Peter, I am not usually too concerned over calories, but I've noticed I am hungry more often and I haven't changed too much other than running. I have decreased my walking, only so much time in the day, but also now fit in a quick 20 min bike ride around the neighbourhood 4-5 times a week. I will also swim casually once the pool warms up again.

I'd also like to drop 5lbs or so, so I am thinking that when the hunger comes on I am best to choose healthy filling foods, like apples with nut butter or oatmeal... or eggs. Instead of diving into the crackers or worse. I like to bake healthy treats but you can still overindulge in those.

I haven't noticed any drop in weight, but I have definitely noticed my clothes fitting differently, and after only 6 weeks or so. That makes me happy!

It wasn't all uphill lol but I'd be happy if I was burning 150-200 even to afford the snack later on.

Thanks again,
Nancy

G'day Nancy,

Be warned....

It's a vicious game to be playing when you exercise to eat/indulge. Not recommended at all.

Stick to healthy food choices, eat when you are truly hungry and fuel your exercise.

Peace

Jeff,

I think I'm very misunderstood. I only like the uphills because they usually involve nice downhills.  angel

Peter I definitively will eat healthy, have yet to figure out what fuels me best...but working on it. If I do indulge its nothing too terrible.  I guess I should have said when I occasionally dive into the crackers or such, I eat well, want to live a long, long time and torture my enemies ...(kidding)

The snack would be an apple or popcorn, or nut butter, trail mix, veggies...good choices. I like good quality, unprocessed foods.

There is... tons is right. I do love them. I "try" to stick to 5-10 almonds with an apple, or 1/8 cup of chopped walnuts on yogurt etc..
