Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone had some suggestions for what would be a good 10K race to run.  My goal is to run my first 10K this fall...and I'd like to find one that is a pretty easy (yes, I said it!) and beginner-friendly!  :)   If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it!  I'm always interested to hear back from people who have actually run the races and find out what their experience has been! :)

Thanks for any suggestions you might have! :)

Staying local then the best two choices are Sandbanks (pretty and beginner friendly) or Fall Classic (Belleville) which is pretty but challenging, goes over the Bay Bridge twice.  I like both, they are often on the same weekend.

We will be hosting an 8k in August from the store if you are looking for a stepping stone.

I vote Sandbanks too.  Just one hill about the half way point -- or is it at 6K?    My one complaint about Sandbanks is it isn't all that interesting out there -- I am not sure why I feel like this.  I have heard other people say this too -- something to do with the part going throught the farmer's field.  Which is strange because that isn't really that long a part of it.

Too bad all the good races fall on the same weekend in September.  Longboat is a really great one if you want to go all the way to Toronto.  I have done this one about ten times, but didn't do it last year and probably won't this year either because it is the same weekend as Sandbanks.  Longboat is on the Toronto Islands.  You take the ferry over, there are tons of families, there is a big BBQ afterwards, lots of prizes and Ed Whitlock has even been known to show up and race, or at least greet the runners at the finish line.  Both the 5K and 10K are totally flat.  The 10K is run on pavement, then a bit on grass, back to pavement and finishes off on the boardwalk.  The first few times I hated the boardwalk but the last few times I have done it, I have loved it, because I got a good sound rhythm going hitting the wood, and plus, it means that you are in the last kilometer & a half or so.  It is a very family oriented event.

Thanks for all the great information on runs, in a month or 2 I'd like to tackle one... maybe the 8km would be a good stepping stone in Aug for me...

Oh, my friend, it's not what they take away from you that counts. It's what you do with what you have left.

Thanks very much for the feedback!

I may just see how the summer goes with training....but doing the 8K I think would be a great stepping stone to my goal!!! :)

Has anyone done the Liftlock Classic in Peterborough?  Just wondering how that one was if anyone has done it! :)

I haven't done that one in years.  It was well organized, but in the evening (usually pretty hot) and very hilly.  That's a beautiful race, but tough.

Kingston is alot flatter in my opinion.  You can check out their schedule at krra.org
