G?day Guys,
Since the sun is bright and warm it got me thinking about posting info on my upcoming Annual Epic ride. This year we are shooting for 400km (last year was 340km), weather permitting. That is to say if it is bad weather we will likely just do a Century ride. The ride will consist of 4 different loops of approximately 100km cloverleafing around the Warkworth area. Janet will be providing support at each loop end, with goodies and water. People can join in on whatever loop is convenient for them. Be warned the loops will be challenging as there are lots of hills in the area and the speed will likely average above 30km/h, and the speeds are usually faster on the first loops and progressively slow down. (surprise, surprise) So this is not for the faint of heart, it is a CHALLENGE , it is TOUGH and that is what makes it EPIC. If you meet the above criteria and can handle at least 100km you are welcome. The date for the ride is Saturday July 31st I?ll post more details as the date approaches. And please let me know if you are interested so we can make sure there is enough food. At the end of the day we FEAST, and this meal is usually for me Epic as well, so everyone who rode and their family are welcome to come on over. Many of the forum members have participated in years past so you have an idea what it is all like. Peace Peter

Peter, You have no idea how glad I was to look at my work schedule (biggest limiter) and see that I am off that weekend! I am definitely interested in joining in the fun. I'll have to wait and see just how much my schedule will let me dive into (as far as distance goes), but its safe to say I'll be doing my best to be as much apart of it as possible. I'm curious to hear about more details, like what time of day you plan on starting? Very cool that you put this out there, I would think you may get some good support from all those IMC'ers training, as it looks about the right timing for them to join in the fun Cheers, Jon

G'day Jon,
We have to get started sun up, typically riding by at least 6:00 am if not before to get done before dark.
As far as Ironmen participating history predicts that they will only join in for one section, but that's fine it's all about whatever people feel they can handle. Last year we had a couple guys do their longest ride ever, and so far other than myself Bob has been the only one to complete the whole ride and he has done it three years in a row. I must be getting old because I can't remember how long I've been doing this ride, I'm thinking at least 14years when it started out as a century ride.
Glad to have you aboard.
Peace Peter

Darn I'm hosting a birthday party that day, so need to conserve my energy for the drink errr food, and hosting. Sounds like a lot of fun, maybe by next year I can work up to a decent distance at a decent speed (at least to keep up at the end of the pack) to join in. If you get thirsty at some point, just think of me drinking an icy marguerita and swimming in the pool. ps: I so want to join one of your weekly rides, as it sounds fun and great scenery from the same ole, same ole, but being so new to this - I'll hold off this year. Gloria
