Can anyone tell me why people insist that bike should not be on the roads?  Its either drivers yelling at us get off the road, honking at us or running us off the road.  They need to read the drivers hand book :
HTA 147 - Slow moving traffic - any vehicle moving slower than the normal traffic speed should drive in the right-hand lane, or as close as practicable to the right edge of the road except when preparing to turn left or when passing another vehicle. For cyclists, you must ride far enough out from the curb to maintain a straight line, clear of sewer grates, debris, potholes, and parked car doors. You may occupy any part of a lane when you safety warrants it. Never compromise your safety for the convenience of a motorist behind you. I think they need to stress this to the new drivers.  The old people follow us until they can pass safy without running us off the road.

Part of the problem is there are too many people that can't fathom the idea of taking some seconds out of their day to wait and then safely pass.

That would be a great part to an an annual license review.  Make everybody ride a bike along a stretch of road with no useable shoulder and drive by them closely with a fast moving vehicle.
Followed by a questionnaire,     How did you feel with the vehicles crowding you?
Good!  Remember that feeling.   Next!

Some good news in this department!

A private members bill is being introduced at Queen's Park this morning that would implement a "safe passing law". Drivers would be required to allow 1 meter(3 feet) when passing a cyclist, and 5 feet when traveling greater than 50 km/h.
This is a step in the right direction. Next would be educating drivers of the existence of the law, and then enforcement. police
I know what the penalty could be for a 1st offense! evil

Hopefully this goes through.

Oh, my friend, it's not what they take away from you that counts. It's what you do with what you have left.

Sadly just 230(approx.) private members bills have made it since 1910

Interestingly our neighbours to the South have the safe passing law in 17 of their States. Looks like we're a little behind the curve here.
