Overuse injuries are caused by two things; training errors or exceeding your biomechanical capacity?usually because of training errors.  On the other hand there a multitude of ways to rehab and prevent overuse injuries from changing your running style, shoes and training habits to yoga, stretching, and massage as well as Chiropractic, Physio and Athletic therapy.  There is now a new way to treat and prevent athletic overuse and acute injuries and that is ART or Active Release Therapy.  While ART is not a new therapy, it is new to the area.
ART is a patented, soft tissue management system that treats problems that occur with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.  Every ART session is a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tension, movement and function, treating abnormal tissues by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.  Treatments take about 8 to 15 minutes for each area and a condition may require two to ten visits before full functionality is restored.  ART is non-invasive, has virtually no side effects, and has a record of producing very good results. When a soft tissue problem has resolved the symptoms will not return unless the injury happens again. To avoid future injuries patients are instructed in specific exercises and given postural recommendations.
In the Quinte area you can see Dr. Ben Osborne from the TIHC/BIHC and try ART today.
