Runnning with an animal

So, with 8 miles of fast running ahead of me, I really needed some motivation. I called the animal.
?What are you doing?? I asked.
?Watching T.V., why??
?Wanna go for a run??
?How far??
?8 miles. Fast.?
?Alright. What time? 8, 8:30? Should only take us an hour.? He mocked.
?I was thinking nowish. How about you give me ? hour or 40 minutes. Does that work??
?Sure.?
Forty minutes later we stood outside his door as I explained the plan. Three miles at goal pace, 4 x 800 and 3 miles at tempo.
For the first 3 miles I reminded, pleaded and begged him to slow down. We averaged 36 seconds a mile faster than prescribed.
Our 800 repeats went faster than planned to, by 53 seconds a mile, but they always do.
As we ran back (at 15 seconds/mile faster than planned) he turned and said, ?maybe next time you?ll think twice about making me run on a Thursday night.? Laughed and sped up.
Animal.
Thanks for making speed work so much fun.
