The St. Catharines Road Runners Club hosted a new race on Saturday as a fundraiser for prostate cancer research. You had the choice of 1 or 3 8.5K loops through a fabulous trail on the Niagara Escarpment right behind Niagara College. While the uphill section was not bad at all, the downhill involved the use of your buns as it was fairly slippery especially after the 3rd loop.(not me - I was stuck in a tree at that point!) The club had put together a terrific post-race which was a good idea for carbo-loading before the Ice Wine Festival tours!

It was a treat to find a winter trail race during January thaw. Check out their webpage: www.welovetorun.com

Looks like it was fun but you're goping to have to explain the "in a tree"...sounds like a great story.

I used A LOT of trees to break my falling as I went down the escarpment trail. I found them far more resilient than me! At one point I was sliding on ice on my butt and I still needed the assistance of nearby trees to de-accelerate. All in all, it was a fantastic time and one I would do again!
