G'day Guys,
I thought I'd post a little review of my latest shoe purchase the Saucony Razor.
When Sandy first brought this shoe to my attention last season I was immediately interested but alas it wasn't available to this fall. And when it became available I was the first in line. The shoe is a weather proof trail type shoe that in my opinion has some leading edge design features. First instead of using a gortex material for the shoe upper they've encapsulated the shoe upper in an E-vent (gortex type material though argueably more breatheable) bootie. Thus protecting the laces/tongue everything. This is a perfect setup for those really messy runs whether in mud or as we are now experiencing snow and slush. Not many things are more frustrating than trying to undo your frozen up laces to get warmed and dryed up after a slushy cold wet run. Well these guys do the trick. I haven't had the shoes long but they are definately cold weather shoes as my feet are always toasty, even in the snowy -10C trail run I did this morning. The tread is aggresive as you'd expect from a trail shoe and works well in everything except ice, and nothing works on ice except metal studded shoes or Yak trax. I can't wait to try these out on my snow shoes as the built on bootie should allow my to not have to wear gators. The lacing are the pull style which salomon users will be familiar with and seem to hold tightness well, though I miss the ability to back lace to get that precise fit. Again since the shoe is new to me it will be interesting to see how durable they are as I can be a little abusive on my equipment, but the shoe seems well built. And since the shoe tread is the same design and mateial as the Xodus it will take a hell of a beating. Check them out at TriandRun if there are any left, might make a good Christmas gift. Fit seems true to size with a nice size toebox. Peace Peter

Great review Peter. I have had the shoe on and LOVE it. Very cozy and can definately see the advantages of wearing it in winter weather or on the trails at any time.
My next trail shoe purchase for sure.

I agree, I have been wearing mine for a couple of months on the trails and love the traction. Have worn them a couple of times on the road in the snow and they feel very light, warm and dry. Good wind protection.

They sure kept Donna's and my feet warm at the Yardman Arena last night! The rest of our body was freezing but our feet were toasty. Not that we were running or doing anything the least bit exercise wise, but if they keep your feet warm when you are sitting doing nothing but watching speedskating, then they should be great outside and running!

Jane,
I have to say that the Razors are Definately overkill for sitting at an area, though on the other hand you never know when the urge to jump up and run (maybe even try to race the speedskaters around the track) will overcome you. It's always better off being prepared. :)
Peace Peter

It was overkill but they did keep the feet warm. I just got back from the Olympic Torch ceremonies where we stood around outside for TWO HOURS and my little toes were just starting to get cold. Someday, I WILL wear these shoes to run in!

I was there (at the arena). But not for 2 hours. And I sure wished I had some nice warm shoes on.
