G'day Guys,

I was out for a walk last evening with Janet after supper.

Setting -  It was the time of day that all the colours are variations of grey but you can still see pot holes on the road and such. As some know we live out in the sticks on a gravel road where the trees over hang the road. Coyotes were already starting to yip. Very out in the country.

When walking Janet usually jumps at about every twig snap and squirrel leave russle and I'm constantly making fun at her about it. Nice guy I know...

Well as we were walking a chatting about days events all of a sudden there was a horrendous noise of branches and such I thought we were going to be immediately crushed by a tree. Janet and I were scrambling, ducking and looking around to what was going on. Scared Sh..tless to say the least.

Well as it turned out probably 50+ Wild Turkeys decided to roost in the large Maples that line the road and since there had been no traffic in a quite a while had settled in for the night. As we walked by they launched out of the trees flapping and crashing through the branches. Awesome to experience and as we continued down the road we were waking bunches of the them for about 75metres. Way cool, to watch these large dark objects sitting in the trees launch into flight. You rarely get a chance to see turkeys fly as they prefer to run.

I told Janet since they had been seeking Canadian refugee status and hiding since yesterday was U.S. Thanksgiving. Too funny.

Very Cool Story Pete!
They are an amazing bird, so quiet on the ground yet so loud when flying. I didn't think they would roost along the trail to your house with all the street lights. BTW will you be getting indoor plumbing any time soon?

Woody,

Amazing bird indeed, and even better eating.

As far as that new fangled indoor plumbing stuff, it just doesn't seem right having running water inside your house??? I think we'll wait until it's been around for a few years and tested out thoroughly, before I'll make the leap.

Peace

Ok that does sound cool but brings me back to Thanksgiving a la WKRP..."as God is my witness I thought turkeys could fly...oh the horror!"  If you don't get the reference you don't watch enough TV!  grin

Though by agreeing that I dearly know that reference I'm both admitting I have and watch tv and that we are all getting waaaaay toooo old. :)

OMG Sandy I'm still laughing!! The minute I read Peter's line "rarely seeing a turkey fly" I laughed out loud with remembering how proud The WKRP team was with their Thanksgiving Promotion that turned into "Bags of cement" hitting the ground!!!

That episode was one of my favorites. It is right up there with the one were Venus and Johnny Fever got drunk on air.

I know you guys aren't going to want to hear this, and I know this shows I far too much time on my hands since I've been cutting my training back this month. I did a little google search and that WKRP Turkey episode aired in the 1978... 31 years ago. Whew!! Seems like only yesterday.

I think you should wear the string of christmas bells that hang on your door that would cover pretty much all the animals in the woods! but the kids might think you are santa when we ride by their houses! or the ice cream truck.
