Dear Run Doctor, I think I might be losing my mind. Let me tell you a story. Sunday was long run day, right? So we leave 18, 1/2 litre bottles of water out on the course, get back, set our watches, and head out. Well, I'm having a hard time right? 'Cause on Friday we did 10 miles of speed work, and my legs are really tired. You follow? So, anyway, we head out and my legs really hurt, I've got this pain in my right shin, and my left calf is really tight, ya know? Like, really tight. So, we're running along, and it's like I'm running with swim flippers on. You know? All you can hear is, slap, slap, slap, slap, slap from my feet hitting the ground. Not really quiet like it should be, but all slappy, like you're running with Daffy Duck. So, we get to about the 3 mile mark, and my right leg stops hurting, and it can't hear my right foot slapping anymore. Now I just hear slap, step, slap, step, slap, step, and so on, 'cause only my left leg hurts, like my right leg is now fully warmed up. So, we keep running, and I keep slapping and stepping, when at about 8 miles I say to the boy, "you hear that?" He says, "What?" I say, "exactly." He says, "exactly what?" I say, "No slap. I've finally warmed up. Remember when 3 miles was a warm up? What have we become that I need 8 miles to warm up now?" He says, "that's not a warm up, it's not like you can go out and race 10k now, you've just run 8 miles to stretch out a muscle." I say, "ya, I guess you're right." So, the Americans are up in arms over the president telling their kids to stay in school. Am I crazy, or are they?
Sincerely, Confused In Belleville
