I just made my first foray into the triathlon domain completing the Orillia Try a Tri yesterday. That was my first goal accomplished and I was also looking to do it in under an hour. Did that too.

Look forward to more fun and punishment and getting involved through various local groups.

The course was good. The water was a little choppy but a balmy 74 degrees. The bike started out with two fairly miserable hills but the up-side was that was also the end coming back in to the transition. The run was relatively flat.

I felt slow in T1 so will need to improve there.

I am looking forward to another Try-a-Tri in the spring just to 'go through the motions' before hopefully moving up to a sprint later in the season.

Question: The times for my race did not show the times for the two transitions. I suspect they lumped T1 in with the bike time and T2 in with the run. Is this likely the case and is this standard?

It depends on the race and depends on where the mats were.  If you crossed a mat coming into transition from the swim then it is added to your bike.  If you didn't cross a mat until you left on your back then it's added to your swim.  Same thing on the run.

Well,
 Come spring maybe keep Limestone in mind for a good transition between Try a tri?s and the Sprint. It is in Kingston, was mothers day this year (which was cold and horrible I know), but it is a pool swim (500m) 20km bike with some fairly good rolling hills, and a pretty run (5k)around the campus.Great BBQ afterwards,lots of prizes, I love it! Plan on being there again next year. Happy training
