I'll be in Peterborough as well, trying to keep my butt in the saddle, and the wind at my back wink.

I am still thinking about it.  I guess I better hurry up and make a decision!

A friend persuaded me to run it.  She did the 5K a few years ago and remembered it being fun.  Since we are both training for the PEC 1/2 in October, we decided to sign up this week.

I am slightly second guessing my decision after viewing the elevation map, but hopefully it will be fun!

Wolfe island is best described as hot, hilly and windy.

Great.
Sounds like it will certainly let me know how far along I am in preparing for the PEC 1/2 in October.

I registered for the 10K last night.  I finally made the decision.  I do like this event.  Even if it usually is hot and hilly.

OK!  So it IS definitely hilly ... 5 good ones in total if you are running the 10K.
Apparently it wasn't as hot as previous years.
And you ran into the wind going out and had it at your back for the final 4.5K.  If I understood the race director, normally it is the other way around.
I was very pleased to discover that I haven't lost my nack for hills.  In fact, I think I passed people on all of them.
Even though it wasn't as hot as previous years, I still found it hot ... especially the last couple of K.  I am now really curious about electrolytes and wonder how much easier those last 2K would have been if I had had them.  However, I believe a race isn't the place to experiment for the first time.  Hopefully by the PEC 1/2, I will be well educated on them.
Wasn't a personal best for me (at 57:04), but I still managed to finish 80th out of 160 runners and got 2nd place in my age category.  I can live with that!
I will certainly sign up again for this event.  It was fun!!

Congratulations Kate.

This is a great race and is definately hotter usually than this year.  Always fun though.   A must to remember for next year for sure.

I had a great time too -- usually do at the Wolfe, even if it is hard to break an hour for me on that course!  I believe the only time I have done it was two years ago when it was really cool and I was much lighter.

Kate, it is usually cooler running out than back.  It gives you this false impression that the weather isn't REALLY all that hot.  And then you turn around back into the hot steamy oven!  It's been that way every year (except 2007 - the very cool year), with some years worse than others.  This year wasn't actually all that bad.  I would classify it as probably the second coolest year in all the years I have been doing it.   I believe I started in 2004.

There were lots of fast 50 year old women out there this year.  I was 7/8 in my AG coming in at 1:05:54.  The six ladies in front of me all broke an hour.
