Derek Trainor has gone to Boise Idaho to participate in the Special Olympics World Games.  The opening ceremonies are today and competition runs for the next week.  Here is the general home page for the website:

And here is a link to Derek's info page on the games website.

You can submit comments.  I did but it hasn't showed up yet as they have to be approved.

That wasn't a great link - Donna says that the Special Olympics World games results are better.

http://www.2009worldgames.org/results/index.html

Anyhow, he has a silver in the 1000 m and a gold in the 777 m.  He beat the second place guy by less than two seconds!  Way to go Derek!!

He was skating the 1500 m at 3:05 p.m. but the results aren't up yet.

Good for Derek!  I thought the link was ok.

I had a blast from the past the other day when I girlfriend of mine from when I was 10-14 emailed to bring me up to speed on her family.  Her younger brother is in Idaho competing in the skiing events, I think mostly cross country and he won bronze!  It was kind of cool to know that both he (Mike) and Derek were both there.  She also sent me a link to an interview a local radio station from Charlettown did with Mike's Mom at the finish line.  It was 6 minutes and was so neat to hear her voice!

That is neat!  I wonder if he got to meet Derek at all!  What a small world.  Derek should be arriving home with his loot any time now.  I hope he posts a photo of the hardware!!  Derek!  We want photos!!
