Rant of the day....

I mean really, 1% vs 0 incline on a treadmill?  I had been enjoying the 'quick feel' of 0 incline recently, knowing full well that treadmill runs are considered 'more effective' if done with a 1% incline.  Last winter all my TM runs were done at 1% minimum.  So, my conscience finally got the better of me, and I came clean, so this week I added the 1%.  You'd think it was no biggy, but when your training by heart rate, its just enough resistance to make you slow down that much more, which is annoying!  Who wants to slow down more than the already slow pace at 0 incline!?!?  Especially when your doing a long run.  Its hard to accept covering the distance much slower than you know you can at 0 incline or than running outside (with the same target HR zone).  You'd think an extra 10-30secs per km was no big deal but it is - at least I think so.  And yes I know it works, but I still think it stinks!  Sometimes it just feels like death.  Anyone with me?

Rant done.  wink

HA.. ya..some people think that TM running is death period. But it`s all a state of mind.I do my average TM runs at 2 - 2.5 %. Due to road incline and wind resistance. 0% feels like running down hill... strange..

My treadmill here at home only goes as low as 2.0 incline. Does that mean I'm running at 2% all the time? If it is, no wonder I have a harder time at home. You are absolutely right, Snowrunner, I've gone to the gym and run at 0% and it does feel like running downhill.

Whoaaaaaa, tough crowd eh?

I was only venting...surely thats allowed???  Though I knew I'd get chirped from Sandy, since its "her lounge"   wink  Now if you really knew me, You'd know that I don't mind training hard and the harder the work out, the more I kinda get "fired up"!  grin

For the record there are times when I will run at 5% for intervals, or long slow grinds of 15 mins, and this is usually after running for 60-120mins.  Its just the constant grind of the lowly 1% thats annoying when you know your gonna be on the TM for 2-3 hours.  When your on the road for that long, its always changing, and IMO, I think thats actually easier.

April and Snowrunner, you guys must love the roads.  If my TM couldn't go below 2%, I'd be outside a lot more!
Cheers.

Really, what's the difference between 0 and 1%?  Maybe it's your TM, I run at 1% for every run unless I'm doing a hill workout and it's going higher.  If you don't like a constant 1% than change it every few minutes.  Enjoy!!! cheesy

Sandy....o.k. so I was really not that "freaked" over 1%, but check this out....

I ran at work last night, and put the TM at 1%.  It turns out not all TM's are the same!!!  This 1% was much easier, and more like the 1% at the clubhouse..I could actually still enjoy the run  wink  I was really surprised...I'm not sure why mine felt "steeper" at 1%, I'll have to check into it a bit more, but I won't be running at home until Friday so for now, I'll just enjoy the runs at work. azn
