Tri & Run Sports will be hosting our 2nd annual Wingnut Half Marathon, sponsored by Don McCurdy?s in Trenton. The Wingnut is a half marathon, half marathon relay and 10.5k race that will include runners and walkers. We will draw upwards of 200 participants both from the community and surrounding area.
The Wingnut will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009.  The entry fee for all distances will be $50.00.  Race day registration and kit pickup will begin at 8:00 ? 8:45am and the race begins promptly at 9:00am.
All participants registered by April 4, 2009 will receive a Technical Running Hat.  All finishers will receive a keychain medal, goodie bag and post race BBQ.
There will be aid stations stocked with water, electrolyte replacement and gels every 2.5k. This race will include a 10.5 km, a 2 person half marathon relay and a half marathon.  Beginning in front of Don McCurdy GM it will head down highway 33 and up Stockdale Road.  Done as a two loop race it will be hilly, hard and immensely satisfying to complete!
Register at Tri & Run Sports or call 613-392-7752 with your credit card information.  Online registration at www.eventsonline.ca in the new year.

Sandy,

I am fairly new to running, and the furthest I have gone is just under 6K.  I would love to shoot for doing the 10.5K option of the Wingnut, but I am going to be sidelined from running for about 4-6 weeks beginning January 19th as I am having surgery.  The doctor said after 2 weeks I can start walking, and even speed walking, but I cannot run.

Is it realistic to think that I might be able to pick up my training at the beginning of March and be able to run 10.5K by April 26th?  That would give me about 8 weeks to train.

If you can maintain your running around 5-6k up until your surgery, you have no complication and you get back to walking/speed walking as soon as the Dr ok's it you should be able to at least train for it.  Keep your mind open during your training and listen to your body.  If all goes well you should be able to run the 10.5 at the WingNut.
