So..hi.. angel..
Another fat ass has come and gone. With the weather Gods on our sides , the water was at the deepest and the mud was at it`s finest. Awesome.
No i didn`t run it. Not racing til February , but that doesn`t mean i can`t go and play anyway.. this is a note from me.. the volunteer..  the other side of the table.

Some will say that you don`t know a race til you run one. True. But as a runner and no stranger to races , i can say this. You don`t know a race til you volunteer your time at one.
In the first 15 mins of a race you will warm up and peel off your over clothes.. as a volunteer you add clothes.. lol.. so dress for a stay outdoors. Your day starts before the gun and finishes after the last runner has passed your station. It`s a long day. There really is a science to maintaining an aid station. As a runner i never saw, or given it much thought. Til i started volunteering. The volunteers really are the event. Without them there is no race. When i switched my focus from road to trails , a very wise and good friend told me to stop and take a minute to visit the people at the aid stations. She has been running for like ever, and loves the trails... Sandy is very wise...  so i started to pay homage to the people handing out the fuel in a cup and pointing to the goodies on the tables. They were actually happy to talk for a minute or so , and probably glad that they were acknowledged. I know this is so. In volunteering for my 2nd fatass i can say that the people who donate their time and efforts are generous and at times really good sports. I ran Mississauga last may and i actually stopped and chatted with the volunteers.. and i do think that they appreciated it. Today was a good day. Not everyone will talk to a volunteer , they are in race mode. But enough stopped to chat and eat the goodies. And the best of all was people thanking us for our time. The people at my station were awesome. We were at possibly the busiest station there. And i can tell you all that they tried there hardest to feed and fuel the running masses.. a very cool group to hang with for a day... And in case you didn`t notice, your race bag was full of generosity from Sandy , Patti , Hollie and the rest of the gang at tri and run sports...
Not to mention the volunteer pizza party afterwards..lol... Even Jeff will rid your pizza slice of that nasty meat... vegetarians rock... just ask Dennis hill... ha... so try being a volunteer sometime. It`s a different perspective.
                               happy trails.. Daveyboy. grin

Nicely put Dave.

I would like to thank everybody that volunteered out there today.  Iknow that it must have been cold at times when the wind picked up, if it wasn't for people like all of you the race would be run.

Thanks

I would also like to thank the volunteers.  I have the GREATEST volunteers, happy, smiling and willing to sit in the cold for hours.  I don't know about the runners but I definitely wouldn't be able to do this race without each and every one of you.  Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!  goteam2

I'd like to thank the volunteers too!  Sorry to make you stay out there so long waiting for us.  I knew that you guys were going to be the coldest people out there today -- even moreso than us runners with our wet feet and pants.  Since we appear to be getting slower and slower, maybe next year we can make an arrangement where we call the aid station workers (particulary Sue & Nancy) and let them know when we re going to require their services -  laugh  Then someone can meet us out there and throw us some food!   wink

Thank you also Sandy and all your hard workers for all the preparation you did for the race too!  I know it is a huge job.  It is nice to see the race being so successful!

People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them.

I wanted to thank everyone as well.  You guys are pretty brave sitting out there and waiting for us slow a$$es.  It is really appreciated.  I can't tell you how many times I said that I just wanted to see that last aid station with Sue and Nancy at it.  ha ha

Thanks Sandy and fellow workers for all the hard work you did to make this again another wonderful race.  I hope everyone had as much fun as we did.

Also thank you to all the prize/goodie contributors.
