last week of 3 week taper feeling very stiff and tense apparently this is normal?stressed out beyond belief,any suggestions?

1. Relax, trust your training. 2. Get a massage - but don't wait until 2 days before your race, go sooner and just make sure the MT doesn't go too deep/hard. 3. While your runs a short this week, make sure you do some pickups/speed bursts at some point to inject some snap back into the legs, and keep them alive. 4. What your feeling is normal. Its amazing what having some 'down time' can do. If you let it, you will allow your mind to focus on little aches, pains or tightness. Instead, reflect on those good training moments when you executed well, felt strong and smooth. Also, go over your race plan and rehearse your race strategy as the day approaches. Use the extra time to rest/sleep and when race day comes you will wake up, and the little aches and tightness will likely disappear as you get to soak in the race day vibes.

my suggestion is to LISTEN to what other runners tell you....and BELIEVE them! Yes, what you're feeling is normal. I've been running 12 years, I've done over 10 halfs and three fulls and only in the past 5 years have I learned to ENJOY the taper. And let me tell you, I ENJOY it!! But in the beginning it drove me crazy too! I swear I could feel my fitness level plummeting with each day! But remember that even Olympic marathoners taper too!! You will do fine if you have followed your training program and can remain somewhat injury free. Good luck...like I said, if you've trained properly, you can do this!!
Reminds me of the term "taper tantrum"...it's one of my faves.

Have you had any strange dreams yet??? Like showing up at the race and you forgot your running shoes???? I'm not even in my Marine Corps taper and I had one of those dreams the other night. Trying to get to the race start and not able to get there. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it -- you'll have the dreams for sure now that I have planted the seed in your head!

i cant tell you how much this helps knowing this is a normal re-action . i really appreciate the feed back.now all i have to worry about are the night mares .just kidding thanks again!!!

Apparently the unexplained urge to shop and buy big ticket items is also a taper symptom.
I don't think I have experienced that one any more than normal though.
