So, I went for a run today, and for those that know me, they know, I don't like running in the heat, but when there is an opportunity for me to run, I usually take it.  So, when Jacob got dropped off for piano at noon, I went out the door.  I faired pretty good, and for some reason it didn't bug me that much.
Is it possible that I'm starting to build a tolerance for heat?   
 
So this is my question.  Can you build a tolerance?  I'm moving to Oklahoma and it's real hot there.  How can I prepare myself for the environment?  Short of putting my treadmill in front of the dryer exhaust while wearing a full bodied plastic suit! tongue

Suggestions?

Yes you can.  They say it takes 10-14 days to acclimate to your environment.  The best way is to run it whenever you can and not to avoid it.  If you do run on a TM keep the fan low or off and DRINK, DRINK, DRINK!!!!!  Water that is with electrolyte pills or use the Nuun which adds flavour and sodium without calories increasing your absorption and likelihood you'll drink more water. 

A lot of runners preparing for say Badwater where it can get to 135 degrees will put their TM's in a sauna and run.  I saw pics of one guy who put his TM in the basement, ran with multiple layers and directed the dryer exhaust at himself.  I don't think you have to get that extremem but when you get OK if it's hotter then here, start like you did as a newbie runner, more walking with some run breaks, increasing your run time over two weeks until it feels natural.

Thanks Sandy, that makes sense to me.    I'll start doing mid day runs.  Minus the heavy clothes! lol
