Here's a thought.  What about shirts to first timers only?  I would gladly pay less in registration fees and not receive a tshirt.  Funny thing is this is easy advertsing for the race so you would think they would want an appropriately sized shirt on everyones back.  Doesn't tell anyone about the race if I'm using it for a rag.

In the Subaru Tri series you get a cotton t with race registration but you have the option to pay more money and get a tech shirt.  Having done this, when you technically "pay" for your shirt they ensure the size.  I know, I know, everyone thinks they are paying for a shirt but obviously not if we don't get what we pay for and there is no recourse.

This will be my third time doing Mississauga, and I have yet to get a shirt to fit.  The first year I received a men's small(too big) and last year I received a men's medium(way to big).  I  gave them to my son and my husband, who really liked them!  Made me feel a little better!  I have e-mailed both times the race organizers and received phone calls and e-mails telling me they were sorry and that there was nothing they could do about getting me the right size after the race.  Belleville Runner was fortunate to be able to get them to do something. Your probably wondering why would she go back? I keep going back to Mississauga just because I like the run!  I know that when you do your first half or full having the right shirt size is a big deal!  Wish they could get it right! When I registered there was no box for sizing so I guess it will be a surprise!  I do like Sandy's idea about first timer shirts or paying extra for a tech shirt and ensuring proper size.
Anyway Shannon, Terry and I are booked in for Friday at the Novotel as we thought his 10k run was Saturday AM but it is at 6:30PM.  If we still decide to go up on the Friday maybe  I could pick up Dave's,Sue's and your race kits with hopefully the right size shirt for all of you!  I'll let you know what were doing when we know.

Hey Sue, that works out really well for us, if you, do go up early.
We were talking earlier, and I like the idea of eating early, perhaps before Terry's race, so that we can see him come in.

That sounds great Shannon!  That's really nice of you to offer to eat early so we can cheer Terry on.   A few of the Picton runners are coming to Mississauga too and have mentioned eating early too so I'll get some numbers on how many so we can reserve and we don't up up like we did at ATB. It would be nice for you guys to meet them too!

Sandy has a point.. what does it say about the race if i`m using the shirt to clean the spokes on my bike?
But my very first "official race t shirt" meant a lot to me.. it still does.. i puked over the finish line... I EARNED THE DARN SHIRT!! ..
I would love to watch Terry`s race.. that would be cool. We are gonna be there early so we can all hang out and stuff..
Get some quality social time in.. ya know?? grin

Cathy, I think you misunderstood what I was getting at re: measurements.  I wasn't suggesting custom sized shirts.  I didn't mean that you would give the race organizers your measurements, and then they would pick your size.  What I meant was perhaps the registration form could simply state the measurements of the actual race shirts, for small, med and large.  Then you, the registrant, would pick a size that corresponds with the measurements of your fave shirt, or of your actual body.  It would require no extra effort at all by the organizers.  All they would have to do is measure the three (0r four) sizes of shirts, and add a few lines of print to the registration form .  Sandy, I like your idea also....I don't always want a shirt when I run, I simply want to enter the race, and often the cost is a major factor for me, unfortunately.   However, some shirts are definitely worth the registration fee, especially if you register early.  There are some really nice tech shirts available these days.  Ottawa has had really nice ones over the years....as long as you get one that fits, of course!  Even the Mississauga shirts from '06, were, in my opinion, great shirts....but alas, the sizing was such an issue that many didn't get to enjoy them.

I think the sizing on the forms is a good idea too, Belleville Runner.  At least you can figure out if they are being made large or small and have half a chance of getting the size you want.  Saying small, medium, etc. doesn't tell you a lot if you don't know how small the size small is!

I love getting technical shirts from races and would gladly pay a bit extra for one -- if it is going to fit me!  I like it even better when they have a women's cut for the women, so we don't have to wear one that has no shape at all, like the men like to wear!  Cotton shirts -- well I have so many I could clothe a whole bunch of homeless people.   I've thought of ordering them in extra large and give them to Bob, but then that would just be the time that they came up with a really nice one (like that neat black one from Sandbanks a couple of years ago -- with the blue and green writing) and then I would be upset that I got one that I couldn't wear!!

Socks and hats are also good.  Different is always good.  I like the bags from the Toad too - even if I already have five of them.   rolleyes

I will not get rid of any of mine.  They should last me forever.  I will take great delight in using it to transport some of my personal effects when I move into the Seniors Residence....  laugh

I think this is their 7th Toad.  It will be my sixth.  The first one I did in 2003 had only 187 runners in the 25K by the way.  Sandy and Nancy C. did the one in 2002.   There were only 137 finishers in the 25K that year.   I believe that was the first year.

The Sarsons told me once they have committed to 10 "Toads"  So I should be good for another four bags.  That will give me nine.  Enough room to move most of what I own into the Seniors Home.

Sorry for the hijack!

I love the ladies cut shirts also...makes a HUGE difference.  Ottawa was the first run I ever did where I actually got a "ladies" shirt.  When I get a "unisex" technical shirt I almost never wear it.  They're shapeless...and I've worked hard to have somewhat of a "shape" and I'm not draping it in a shirt made for a man!  In my opinion when it comes to t-shirts, unisex is just another word for "mens".

How true!!  I never thought of it that way!

Just like the "one size fits all"!  Uh, yah, if you want to wear it like a nightgown!!
