I have to share this!  I'm still a newbie--started running last spring.  My running buddy and I had a bit of a revelation--we have started run without paying any attention to TIME.  It was such a novel concept to us.  We are doing the 5k pitter patter so we thought we would try just running for distance and not time and it seriously felt FANTASTIC!  We were able to run longer--even though it didn't feel any longer!  I went out for a run on my own on Sunday and make a concentrated effort to keep my watch in my pocket and not take a look at it at all--I just started out and I am quite proud to say, I have NEVER run for that long of a duration...EVER!

Anyway, I just wanted to share this because it was really such a "AHA" moment for me--I hadn't realized that I had become a slave to the watch and it was actually holding me back!

I just wondered if any other runners have faced these same challenges and/or found the same to be true?

Way to go cpgirl!!!!!  What a great accomplishment and a wonderful feeling.   Sometimes just getting lost in the moment and less focused on our equipment can make a run so easy.  I used to throw a towel on my treadmill display, just so I don't see the time.  lol  Now I have to admit, I feel naked without my watch, but only because I need it for my heartrate.  I try to never look at the time.

Way to go CpGirl!!! It is sometimes hard to go out with the idea in your mind that you have to be out for a certain amount of time.  I don't think that is an issue that only new runners have, seasoned runners can also have the same mental battles.
I have been running for over 8 years and I still have those moments when I feel like I would like to turn around and go home.  Good for you to be able to get out there and get it done!!

I never though of myself as a slave to time.  I did try running without my watch once.  Felt like I was totally naked.

(Now that is a scary thought)

Congrats to you for being brave and running with no time reference.  I hope the body rhythms continue and you continue to keep in step with yourself.

We did a prediction run in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and couldn't wear our watches and it felt very strange.  That being said, I never really felt like I kept checking my watch normally anyhow.  But maybe I do, since I missed it so much on that run.

That is great that you are enjoying your running so much.  And if running without the watch makes it that much more enjoyable and you can run further and longer, then go for it!   Different things work for different people, as we have all found!

See you at the Pitter Patter!
