On September 22 Patrick Foran placed second overall at the Horseshoe Resort 5 Peaks Enduro Course 15.6k in 1:04:19.
On Saturday September 29 a large group of Quinte runners and walkers Ran for the Toad!  In this 25 or 50k trail race runners traverse a 12.5k loop two or four times.  Each loop consists of groomed trail, pavement, open fields, gnarly single track and 30 hills ranging from small rollers to the infamous Skeleton Hill that boasts a bag piper playing some sort of funeral appropriate ditty.  The Run for the Toad has become one of the most sought after races to do as is illustrated by the May 28th sell-out of 900 spots.  If this race intrigues you bookmark www.runforthetoad.com and watch for the early spring registration start to ensure you’ll be racing this gem next fall.  Along with the challenging race course runners are treated to a distinct finishers medal, a Saucony Runners bag, a post race buffet and all the Krispy Kremes you can eat.
This years runners in the 25k were Petra Austin (2:50:46), Heather Clement (3:28:12), Stephanie Rupnow (3:28:09), Shannon Kraska (3:28:15), Sue Dudgeon (3:28:15), Ryann Musson (3:28:39), Carole Wiman (3:29:20), Patti Teske (3:29:18), Rhonda Cassibo (2:54:52), Kristin Walsh (2:54:53), Cathy Gaebel with sister Jan Veen (2:53:52), Rick Leighton (2:14:55), Bill Dudgeon (2:50:47), Laurie Sweetman (3:17:29), Jerry Dirocco (3:06:46), Derek Trainor (2:17:26) and walking Jane Clement and Barb Wykes (4:26:51), Duan and Celin Alexuik (3:28:01), recovering from a broken ankle Cathy Warren (4:07:11), Brenda and Gord Sutherland (4:28:53), Bob Trainer (4:21:41), Donna Trainor (5:13:00) and Tina Gores (4:52:19).  In the 50k were Sandy Musson (5:34:43) and making his debut at this distance, David Storey (5:44:59).  If you think trail running seems easy and these times seem slow, keep in mind that 25k on the trails equates to about 30k on the roads.
On Sunday Toronto hosted the first of it’s two prestigious fall marathons with the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon, half marathon and 5k races.  In the 5k Dave Elder crossed the line in 44:17 and
Marlene Marchand was right behind in 46:42.  Competing in the half marathon were Jutta Merilainen
(1:20:17), Paolo Pavese (1:53:25), Tracey McLean (2:26:42), Lisa Schroeder (2:34:31), Lynn Johnson (2:31:12), Elizabeth Harrison (2:26:41), Bill Huffman (2:31:32), Marla Godin (2:40:05), Cuthbert Cheung (1:45:43), Cloud Nerhling (2:14:52), Janice Robertson (2:15:30), Kim Lead beater (1:51:33), Sherry Powell (2:14:29), Carol Wheatley (2:32:43), and Marc Hays (2:55:42).
Covering the 42k distance was Monica Chokly (3:42:01), Dennis Hills (3:46:44), Jean Birch (4:01:36), Dee Nguyen (4:22:04), Christine Magnant (3:25:29), Jonathan Szczur (4:24:30), Julia Thorn (4:39:24), Nancy Lyons (4:57:01), Jared Hoeft (5:07:07), Rhonda Schoville (5:37:55), Fredrick Schoville (6:14:56), and Paul Fredericks (4:22:59).
At the Liberty Bicycles Off-Road Squeezer on September 30 Derek Zandstra placed second out of 996 racers with a time of 1:05:28.  Also racing were Bryan Waite (1:40:10), Janice McCormick (2:27:44), Mary Van Dusen (2:49:12), and George Mitchell tandem (1:33:00).
If you haven’t already, time is running out to register for the PEC marathon, half-marathon and marathon relay to be held on Oct 14.  Information at www.pecmarathon.ca

Hey Sandy.  I heard at the Toad that Peggy and George are going to be opening registration in November.  They expect to have their site up and running then.  I'm IN!

I think that I posted this in the wrong spot.

My mom brought me the artical "Everyone loves the Toad" today and as I was reading through it I happened to notice that I was listed as having RAN the race.  Although I would have loved to run it, and was registered to run it, I didn't.  I tried to get my category changed to walking but Peggy said that they weren't making any race day changes.  And I can understand that.

Anyways, I just wanted to mention that I did WALK the Toad this year and it still was a memorable event.

The registration for the Toad 2008 is now open.  It is on the 4th of October.  Derek got his wish ..... he is the first to register!  grin  The prices went up a bit and I think they are opening up to 1050 racers.  The pictures are up too but of course Adam's are better!!

I haven't decided if I am going to register or not.  I don't know if my body was designed to walk 25 km all in the same day!

Cathy I noticed that I was down as a runner too.  I had that changed to walking at the practice and I was on the list to walk but when the results came up I was in the running category.  Julie was in the same boat as me so there were probably a few other screw ups.

Donna, I am so glad that Derek got his wish to be first.  How cool.  I remember switching cities when registering for a run once for the same reason.
