Start your Motors Running

If I wanted to start running how would I go about it? I am desperately out of shape and over weight and I have never really run in my life. Is there a way?
There is absolutely a way you can run. To start your walk to run program, discuss your plans with your doctor and get his/her approval. Invest in a pair of running specific shoes designed for your biomechanics and a pair of running socks. To start this is all the equipment that is required. Start by walking for 15 to 30 minutes every other day. When you can walk for 30 minutes comfortably, head
out on your walk, warm up for 10 minutes and then add a run break. To do this, just start to run at an EASY pace until you want to stop. Repeat this for 10 minutes and then walk to cool down for 10 minutes. You should also add two days of straight walking or cross training. That could include biking, swimming, skating or any aerobic machine at your disposal.
At this point your week should look as follows:
Day 1: 10 minute walk, 10-minute walk/run, 10-minute walk.
Day 2: 30 minutes of walking or cross training.
Day 3: Repeat day 1.
Day 4: Repeat day 2.
Day 5: Repeat day 1.
The emphasis now should be on your 10 minute walk/run by making your run breaks longer and your walk breaks shorter until you can run 10 minutes continuously. Speed is not a factor.
When you can run 10 minutes continuously, extend your work period so that you have a 5-minute walking warm-up and a 5 minute walking cool-down with the 20 minutes core of walk/run or straight running. Continue with this pattern until you can run continuously for 30 minutes with a 5-minute warm-up and a 5-minute cool-down three days a week and two walking or cross training days.
As you progress through your learn to run program, remember to stretch after every session and if weight loss is your goal save your eating until after your work-out session, regardless of whether you are an early morning or a late in the day runner.
