Well, since Cathy has her own personal recovery update thread, I thought it was only fair that we have a Janet Update thread as well.

So..... Janet...... this thread is for you to keep us up to date on all the trials and tribulations of recovering from a stress fracture.

And I want the whole truth about how it REALLY happened.  Because right now, I have this strange fear of going to the ATM!!   wink

I have never heard of a running injury that involved an ATM withdrawal.....

I am certainly not saying you don't have one Janet but I'm beginning to think that all the Doc's just got a periodical that outlined stress fracture because I've heard of 4 runners that have them, one would have gotten in Sat and was diagnosed today!  Same thing happened when a notice went out about Morton's Neuroma.

Is your cast removable Janet?

Yeah it's removable, and they can actually see the fracture on the X-Ray, which normally Iguess they are so small that they have to use a bone scan.  But I do go to see the ortho surgeon on Thursday of this week instead of next friday, so maybe they'll have good news for me!
Sorry Jane, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Cathy went to him, and he took off the strange thing they put on her leg and told her to treat it like a sprain.  Maybe he will do the same thing for you -- wishful thinking, anyhow!

Yes, wishing sometimes does work.  I am not sure that being in that cast was good because I had to rest, or bad, because I had to get those muscles working again.

I hope you get good news Janet.  If you are still on crutches for the Toad, I could bring mine and we could have races.  Or if we can find two computer chairs with big wheels....  I was getting real good at managing one of those with one foot.  LOL

I think we should do like the blind run only wheelchairs and fast people like Jutta and Damon Allen should have to push you!

That would be fun!  I'd then know what it would be like to be running (well almost) like my hair was on fire!

So now back to Sandy's question it was on the 4th that I went to the ATM, on the 13th I had the set of X-RAys done at the X-Ray clinic, and the again at emerg on the 14th.  Doesn't hurt now(as long as I don't touch it/ bang it undecided), but there is still some swelling, so I try to keep it elevated as much as possible.

I will gladly give you the race Cathy on crutches!  I am about ready to be done with them!  I have muscles in my arms that are sore that I didn't even know I had!

I know Janet.  I was barely 5 days on them and was having real problems with my neck and back of my arms.  Of course it didn't help to go to Toronto Island the very first day I had the darn things and walk around all day, (well hobble).  Now that was a bit foolish.
(OK, NO COMMENTS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY)

You know, it looks easy when you see someone using them but when you have to be the one that is on them 24 - 7 it isn't quite as easy as you thought.

So I am happy to say that I no longer am dependant on other  people to carry stuff for me ( felt like highschool today when I had the guys carrying my books for me to class laugh), as I don't have to use my crutches any longer banana dance.   But I am sorry to say that I now have a pretty purple cast from just below my knee to my toes.  You were right Sandy, it wsn't a stress fracture.  It was a whole all the way thru the bone fracture. Must have stepped on my foot funny when i was off in my running dreamland.  So 4 wks from now the will remove the cast and re-evaluate it.  I checked out the Goretex casts, and they didn't really want me swimming in it as the water doesn't drain well out of them and then you get nasty skin infections, so my pretty purple one will do, although I am hoping to get on my bike on the trainer, and do some weights.  So that's my update, so no crutch racing with you at the Toad though Cathy, and here I was reallly building up some speed on those things wink.

I am so glad that you are off those crutches Janet.  I can sure sympathize how it felt to be helpless when you have done everything for yourself for for ever.  And just when you are getting used to the darn things, they take them away from you.  Can't wait to see your purple case.  Yeahhhhh...........    smiley smiley smiley

When we are both all better maybe we can plan a special event and race than.  Or maybe not.

Wow!  A complete fracture.  Was it in the metatarsals or higher up the foot?  Purple's pretty!  Remember the RV offer is there for anyone coming home.
