Happy to be a new member of the Quinte Funrunners. My first time race was this past Sunday (Canada Day) @ Ontario Place for the "HBC Run for the Athletes" fundraiser 10km run for Canadian Olympic Athletes. For anyone who has never participated in this event, I highly recommend it for next year. Quick recap of the festivities: First off my entry fee of $38.00 plus taxes included a dry fit technical running shirt with my bib number printed on it, a Wilson hat, "Play All Day Pass" for Ontario Place, tons of food (including fresh fruit, bagels, Nestea & Powerade, Sweet & Salty Granola Bars) available, plus participant medals (which are huge by the way) for everyone. The route took you from the parking lot of Ontaio Place, down Lakeshore Blvd., rounding back at the halfway point, returning along the Waterfront pathway. Almost entirely flat with one minor hill so not too challenging. At the end of the races, there was face painting, blow up jumpers, and balloon shaping clowns for the kids, plus live bands that were on the 10km route and at the awards presentations. Also, they drew random bib numbers for gift certificates for HBC. A nice addition to the race was the fact that some of the local Olympians participated in the race and handed out the awards. A great day that was summed up with the Festival of Fire, a music choreographed firework show. There was also a 3km walk and a 1km kids race, both of which also came with participant medals and technical running shirts. Very well organized and terrific for the whole family. Now my four year old daughter can't wait for her next event.
Matt

Welcome Matt Didn't we run with you a couple of weekends ago. Hope you and your family come out to the gummy run. This one sounds like real fun.
I like the sounds of the Canada Day Run you just did. Loved the fireworks in prior years when I was there. Symphony of Fire part of that weekend?? Great place for a race for sure. One to keep in mind.

It does sound like a fun run!! And all the stuff you got for your entry fee is amazing! How many people were there, do you know? I looked at your photos on facebook and they were great too! Hope to see you out for our Sat morning funrun again soon -- if you bring your Ashley, maybe Janet will bring her Ashley again!
