Well,
Today was the big day!  Heather's maiden tri voyage.  I'll let her tell her tri story, but I just gotta say how darn proud of her I am. yeah!.
So this morning the alarm went off early, I ran to the window and saw that it was pouring down rain!  Thought "well maybe it'll be done by the time we have to bike", as I'm trying to picture what my road rash is going to look like.  Anyway I met Heather and Adam at the carpool spot (Cathy and Jane were held up at Timmies), and off we went.
We got there, got magic markered, our race kits, and went out to set up our transition spots.  By this time it had stopped raining, so far so good.  We got into our spots for the swim heat( in the pool) and before I was ready we were off! (oh yeah while we were waiting I noticed that it was teeming outside, road rash here I come!)
The swim was pretty uneventful for me, not as quick as last year, just couldn't seem to settle myself down and relax at all.  Although I did lose track of the lengths so it was a nice surprise when I found out I was at 18 instead of 16.  So then it was out of the pool to the bike.  Heather and I planned on sticking together for the whole experience (we even had our matching shirts on), so I had no sooner sat down to put my shoes on, and there's Heather right behind me!
Off the bike we go in just a gentle rain, but still not too bad.  We talked most of the bike, called out encouragement and "lookin' goods" to fellow athletes (in true Funrunner fashion laugh), I tried not too draft Heather too much, as that was my strategy all along to tire her out on the bike so I could keep up with her on the run wink.  Anyyway, I was just saying how it wasn't all that bad in the rain, when it really started to pour!  The water was running out of my bike shoes!  At least we were half way done by that time.  we made it back to the transition area, I only had one moment of a little out of control, and no road rash.  We gelled, and started the run.
It's a nice run, only one hill, quiet trails, and our legs didn't feel to bad, although we walked the hill like the trailrunners that we are.  Then we could hear people cheering and there was the finish line where Jane, Cathy and Adam were.  All in all it was a great time! Again I would highly recommend this race to anyone.  Swimmers of all abilities were out there, race bikes, hybrids, and even some mountain bikes!  It's a great start to the tri season, or a good get your feet wet for newbies.  Draw prizes, a barbecue, a shirt, awesome volunteers, nice bike course with a lot of gentle hills, what a great day!

Hey Janet and Heather - I'm glad you guys had so much fun. It was great to see so many from the clinic at the tri - and thanks to Donna and Bill for their support. I'm not find of Tri-ing  tongue in the rain but i was in one of the later heats and it wasn't raining quite so hard.  Great job.

Janet that was a great report, it almost makes me want to tri one, the only problem is that I sink in water.

Janet, great report, too bad I am not very good on a bike or else I might be motivated to try one.  I don't think my Walmart special would hold up to the rest of you.

First of all, Janet, thanks for taking Heather under your wing and encouraging her in her training and making sure that she was alright during the tri.  It made such a difference (to me especially) knowing that you were out there with her on her first one!  I cannot thank you enough!  You should have some really good karma for a long long time!!

And Heather, I am so proud of you and how hard you worked to do this tri.  Going from not wanting water up your nose last fall, to swimming 20 laps in 14-something (can't find the results right now) and looking so good when you were doing it -- well, it was just awesome to see!!   Sorry for being nervous and worrying about you biking in the rain!!  But you did amazing despite all the yucky weather!
