Well,
Better late than never right? So here is my 1/2 marathon race experience from Mississauga. This year I walked with my Mom. It was the best Mother's Day present I could have gotten for her! She so enjoyed having dinner with the girls the night before, a touch of race apprehension that morning, and then flew threw the race. I asked her what she wanted to do it in, her reply was "to finish", and then 4hrs (my thoughts were "wow, that might be a long time"). We started and did our first km in about 10min, they never got any longer than that! She found the last km tough, but we pulled her through it,and she finished with a smile on her face! She was very impressed with her finishing time of 3:25:and change.
I must say though that walking a 1/2 is a lot different than running it. Everyone kept telling me that I should have no problem with it, I run. Well, I was a little stiff the next day, different muscles used, and out there longer than if I was running it. Some roads they were getting ready to open just as we were finishing on them. I also really thought that the half split off a lot sooner than it did (km 14), I was thinking it split at about 8km. BUt I noticed so many more gorgeous houses than when I have run it before.
I admit when the gun went off, I was itching to run, especially at the thoughts of 4 hrs, but it was perfect weather, great volunteers, porta potties every 2km's, I played the bongo drums for a couple minutes with one of the bands ( this was probabley because of me dancing down the street to their music

), talked to a lot of people, and would do it all again in a heartbeat. Now I just have to see what my Mom wants to do next!
