Hi everyone,
Well the Freezin 5 is true to it's name.  Believe it or not, it was freezing this morning!  Not like we are not used to running in cold weather lately but we were spoiled these last few days with warm weather.  laugh
There was a large turn out this morning, in fact I had to wait in lineto register, imagine that!  Of course, just like the bathrooms, the men's line was non-existant!  huh
Apparently a portion of Victoria park was flooded, so we ran along the river.  Was quite nice, I took in the scenery along the way and managed to get a few pics of Jane and Cathy running by.  I told myself that I was not going to run fast and save my legs for tomorrow.  (I've got to do 24K, Ugh)
At one point there was this lady I was catching up at the end, and I had that urge to sprint, and let me tell you, it was hard to resist.  I'm not competitve at all, not at all, nope not me....ya right!  It was like a carrot dangling in front of my nose!!!!! evil
Have no idea what my time was, that is what escalated me to get a polar watch system.  I've been running far too long without one.
Here is some pics.  Oh by the way, they were give aways at the end and I got some recovery powder, compliments of you know who! Tri and Run Sports.  The store got a loud cheer there.
Here's Jane getting changed behind the car:
Jane was clipping along at a pretty good pace

Cathy was not too far behind her:
We are waiting for our goodies...brrr

Yeah, the goodies are here!

Yes, Shannon, it was a great day.  It was a little too cold heading north - and I was freezing my fingers in my little mini gloves.  But, hey, after all, it WAS the FREEZIN' 5, wasn't it???  I went out a little too fast but I was determined that I wasn't going to be passed by people who were racing in jeans.  I wanted to beat my time of 29:54 from last year, even though my legs were quite tired from our 24K on Thursday evening.  Finished in 27:45 -- I'll take it!!!  It was hard -- there were a lot of subtle and not so subtle inclines on that route!!  I tried to make the best of the downhills to speed up.  I tried to represent the 50+ age group and managed to stay ahead of the about 13 or 14 year old girl who tried to pass me.   evil  That will teach those young whippersnappers!!!  Don't mess with menopausal women!!!  Anyhow, it was a great day, and the hot chocolate, coffee and cookies at the end really REALLY tasted good!!

Here are my photos from today:

Before the race - Shannon -- I think she was practicing walking with aggression!

Cathy hustling down the path towards the finish line!

Cathy's last kick!

Shannon being "non-competitive" at the finish line.  She did very well for someone who stopped to take photos and who didn't want to race.

Robyn Pick and her friends, Carol and Cathy (?) I think I may have that name wrong -- but I remember it started with a C!  This was Carol's first race and she blew her 5K training time out of the water by about 11 minutes!  WAY TO GO!!!

Moose, Mike Kelly after getting his medal - I think for Third Place!  Sorry, Mike, I was trying to get you receiving it.  Instead of I kind of got you coming down off the stairs looking sort of like the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

And last but not least, Damon Allen, getting his First Place medal.  Yes he won the race with a time of 19 minutes something.  Wow!!!  Fast!  Doesn't he look kind of like he is being knighted or something???

It was another fun day with my running friends!  And thanks to all the organizers and volunteers associated with the run!  You did a great job!!

Derek, I cannot imagine doing two 10Ks with speedskating sandwiched in between!  Wow, you are like a superman!  I am glad that you weren't hurt when you slipped!
