With Christmas right around the corner it?s time to start thinking about what you will slide under the tree for that special runner/triathlete/fitness enthusiast on your list.  While there are a number of inexpensive items that are great for stuffing those holiday stockings such as Bodyglide, socks, and hats, the following are three specialty items that are new and will make your athlete stand out in a crowd.
Since its founding in 1906, Mizuno has taken special pride in being able to take part in the exciting world of sports, and in making the entire globe the stage for their activities.  Their management philosophy: "To contribute to society through the advancement of sports and quality sporting goods" is clearly reflected in their strong support of numerous worldwide events and in their dedication to advancing sports through cutting edge research and technology.  This fall saw the launch of their new trail shoe the Arashi, which uses a midsole similar to that found on its performance shoes. That means it is a little lower to the ground than its standard trainers, which isn't a bad thing for a shoe designed to be used on unstable ground. That said it's still a road shoe with extra grip rather than strictly for the trails. The Arashi is also lined in Gortex ? which allows the shoe to be wind and waterproof, perfect not only for running on wet, muddy trails but also on snowy or slushy roads.  The snug heel fit makes it a good shoe for the winter walker as well.
Another innovation by Mizuno is their Breath Thermo material available in a loose fit running pant, mock neck turtle necks, zip up second layers, hats, ear warmers and gloves.  This is a unique type of insulating fabric which generates heat from the absorption of moisture and a chemical exchange between perspiration and the properties of the fabric.  While very light weight, the Breath Thermo fabrics are especially useful for protecting you from cold temperatures.
Trigger Point Technologies introduces the TP Massage Ball, Footballer and Quadballer.  These dense material products provide a soft tissue approach to muscle manipulation by providing the consistency and texture of a thumb to safely and effectively alleviate spasms.  Sold separately or as a package these products can be used daily to relieve the body of tight muscles and fascia, restoring normal movement.  The Ball can be used to penetrate the piriformis, glute and hip muscles as well as chest and neck muscles.  The Footballer manipulates the calf muscles promoting elasticity and alleviating crippling plantar fasciitis.  The Quadballer gets the quads, IT bands, low back, hamstrings and neck in a safe and effective manner.  All products come with an instruction DVD and new out this year is an instructional book that shows you how to target the six main areas that can contribute to poor biomechanics which reduces your ability to perform and causes injuries.  All of the above items can be purchased at Tri & Run Sports in Trenton.
