It certainly was a lovely day for a race.  The weather was fantastic and the large group of people that showed up to participate was amazing.  There was probably 14 or more from our little group of runners along and several well wishers that showed up from Kingston and area to cheer on their special friends.

We had arrived a bit early and had a chance to meet a few people that had come to watch as well as run that we new and prepare for the race in an unhurried fashion.  We got our race packs, had several trips to the car, listened to the directions of the new route and before you knew it we were all heading out to the start.  The start line of the race just seemed to offer up more familiar people to chat with and photo ops were just happening all over.  Then the announcement  that we were ready to go.

I?m not sure if Petra was totally convinced to walk this race or not but we took off with the starting group of walkers and into the cold wind coming from the lake with a vengeance and it wasn?t long before we were  passed by a very speed walker (who liked to run the hills of all things).  But it was great because we weren?t that sure of the route (probably because we really didn?t listen when told where we had to go) and he seemed to know where he was going.  I enjoyed the route more than last years.  We didn?t have the loop around and the sections that last year had been covered with ice had been removed.  Somewhere around the 2.5 k mark the path turned and gave us a choice of two different directions and because we were still the first of the pack of walkers/runners we didn?t know whether to go left or right.  At this point Bob Trainer joined us and between the three of us we called to the volunteer and she quickly directed us down the left path.  For a moment I was getting scared because I thought that we had gotten lost.  Ha ha

With Bob taking up the lead of our little threesome we trodded off through the snow covered sidewalk  as more and more runners came running past us.  Derek was well into the lead and from our point of view as he headed further up the road we could see a battle for first place brewing.   The sun kept popping through the clouds and the conversation was light and interesting.  I think there was quite a bit of talk of Disney, wonder why that would be??????

By the 4th k Bob was starting to pull away.  We kept close watch on him making sure that he didn?t get too far ahead of us.  We were lucky at this point because there were all kinds of runners passing us by.  No more fear of getting lost.  The finish line was soon before us and the crowd of people was pretty amazing.  Everyone was cheering and having a wonderful time.  Adam and Heather were in full view and the waving and cheering started from both directions.  Across the finish line we went with Bob beating us by approx. 18 seconds.  Boy he is fast.  Congratulations Bob on an inspiring finish.  You sure kept me moving.  Thanks Petra for sticking with me and making sure that I got to the finish line.

The post race festivities were short and sweet.  No one in our group won a prize but we had a plan to finish the day in our usual festive way.  Eating.  We hit Cora?s in Kingston and brunched on some really good food and then a little shopping at Costco.

Thanks all for coming to share this day of days.  The last day of the year.  I know that tomorrow will start a new year and we get to do this all over again.  How Awesome.  Thanks Adam for your usual fantastic pictures and Jane you always contribute some pretty spectacular ones as well.  I hope to have the ones that I got posted soon.

Happy New Year to All
