Do you remember the Centennial song they used to play on the black and white television?  Every once in awhile it pops into my head.

Now that was my favourite group.

There was Michel Nesmith, Mickey Dolenz, Davie Jones, Peter Tork

Hey Hey We're the Monkees

You can come to the party, Cathy!!   laugh

Robyn, do you mean the one that they had kids singing with Bobby Gumby or Jimby or something like that leading them?  You mean C-A-N-A-D-A????  And it went:

C-A-N-A-D-A
One, little two, little three Canadians
We love thee!
Now we are 20 million
C-A-N-A-D-A
Four, little five, little six little provinces
Longe vie, longe vie!
North, south, east, west,
there'll be happy times
Church bells will ring, ring, ring,
It's the 100th anniversary of Confederation,
Everybody sing, together....

Start again..

OK - It may not be completely accurate but I did this from memory and didn't GOOGLE it!

I remember big Centennial celebrations on the base in Lamacaza QC.  It was a happening place.

We also sang, This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land
and The Maple Leaf Forever.

You people who weren't born in Centennial Year -- you missed a good time!

That's it!  I can't believe you remember all the words.  I remember singing that when I was just a wee thing.  Do you remember singing to all the toy commercials?  I think I knew just about every commercial and TV theme song there was.  "Come on, get happy."  "Here's a story of a lovely lady..."  "A three hour tour."  Boy, am I aging myself.

I absolutely love The Maple Leaf Forever.  They don't play that much anymore.  When I went to Europe with some students, the older people on tour with us taught everyone the words and we sang it to the veterans in Dieppe, Ypres and Normandie.  They vets had tears in their eyes.   Thankfully they do play it a lot in France and Belgium whenever they have war rememberances.  I wish I could play the bagpipes just to hear it.

I know, I tried a couple of times the past day or two and it wouldn't work.  I'll let you know if it starts again.

I finally got it to work. My song on my B-day was another brick in the wall by pink floyd and my wedding song is SOS.
