Well, we had a great day at Longboat once again!!  I don't have much time to write right now so will have to post more later!  Just wanted to say, it was fun, I think we were ALL happy with our results.  Well, Derek says he wasn't as he was trying to break 20 minutes in the 5K and ended up with 21:35.  I think he did great -- wow 5K in that short a time!  And he came fourth in that very competitive 30-34 age group!!

Petra, Miss Speedy, finished the 5K in 27:11 and took 2nd place in her age group!  She got a medal and a $40 gift certificate for New Balance clothes.  Nice way to bring home the hardware Petra!!

Bob and Donna Trainor in their second appearance in a walking race continued to impress.  They beat their Wolfe Island time finishing in 42:40!!  They were 15th and 16th place out of 24th!

The four of us who ran 10K all finished under one hour!  Heather and Stacey finished in 59:31 and 59:38 respectively!  They looked great coming over the finish line!!  And way to go, Heather, taking six minutes off your time from last year.  Cathy, even though she tried to feed us this story of taking more than an hour, finished in 59:55 according to the results.  My time was 56:36 which I was very happy with.  I ran the boardwalk with a lady I met last year from the runningroom website, and we discussed disney which really helped that boardwalk fly by.

All in all, it was another great day.  For once we didn't swelter in the heat, and we were actually cold sometimes (but NOT when we were running!).  Petra and I stepped outside the box and ate veggie burgers.  They were OK.   laugh  We got to meet Ed Whitlock (again).  He wasn't happy with his results, finishing in 40 minutes and something.  He isn't sure if he is going to do Scotiabank and if he does he doubts he will finish in under 3 hours.

I'll have the photos ready soon......

Well, so much for using my lunch hour to upload the photos from photobucket to make a little mini photo journal of our trip yesterday!  I had the whole thing done, went to post it and lost the WHOLE thing!!

So I am going to try to quickly repeat what I had done!  And save it to somewhere before I attempt to post again!

Our day started out at 6 a.m. in the DARK!

We made it to T.O. just after 8 a.m. and headed toward the ferry.  Petra and Cathy got a little confused and I had to break it to them that they were here as runners, not virgins!!!

So... we headed for the ferry and went to sit in the warm sun upstairs.  It wasn't crowded -- bonus!  We all got seats.

Bob and Donna wouldn't sit with us -- they preferred to freeze downstairs.  For some reason they thought it was warmer down there!

We arrived at the island and had lots of time to spare since we had to be there so early.

So we amused ourselves....

We journeyed out to the pier...

Donna modelled her new pants....

We stretched.....

We ate bagels and Heather and Stacey read old issues of Runner's World, planning their strategy to break an hour....

We took touristy photos...

Derek focused....

Finally, it was almost time for the run to start....

The 5K-ers (sorry, Petra, I somehow missed you)

The 10K-ers (taken by a nice guy behind us)

I tried to get Heather coming over the finish line but my camera didn't cooperate!   angry sad

But I did get Stacey

and Cathy

After we ate, Petra got her medal!!

And we did a photo op with Ed Whitlock...

Then it was make our way back to the mainland by bus and ferry.

Another successful (translated fun!) day!!

Sorry about the small photos -- they are ones that I uploaded to photobucket from Adam's website.  I don't know how to make them bigger!

Great race report and picture album Jane.
And the best part is, you said and documented everything so well, I don't have to do anything.
Good thing so that you straightened Cathy and me out and told us where to run so we didn't end up at the "Virgin festival" accidentally.
It was a fun day, even the drive to and from Toronto.

I am sure glad that you explained about that virgin thingie as well.  I will know better for next time.........maybe.

Great race report and great pictures as usual Jane.  It was truly a lovely day.  The 12 hours was spent with fun, laughs, food, shopping, with a run thrown in near the start.  Thanks Petra for driving.  You did a spectacular job.  And thanks to Jane for navigating.  It made the trip smooth and flowed  like water over a waterfall.  Thanks Heather and Stacey Bob Donna and Derek for helping to make it such a good day. I would definately do this race again. And the addition of Ed at the end just topped of Petra's amazing 2nd place finish.  Great job everyone.

Great race report and  pics Jane! Congrats to all of you who raced, sounds like some  PR's happened and that you all had fun.  Sad that I missed out on all the fun, some year I might have to take a holiday just to see what all the fuss is about!

Kevin Hayes Passed Away on September 10, 2006

Kevin Hayes was suffering from ALS for several years, and passed away on Sunday September 10, 2006 at noon.

Kevin was a long-time member of the Longboat Roadrunners and the Ontario Masters, and will certainly be missed by everyone that he knew.

News came to the Longboat club during their Annual Island Race 10 Km. Before the race, their was a hope that he could attend, but he was admitted to hospital a day earlier. Ironically, it seems that he was with us after all.
Kevin was a graphic artist and is well known for his race logos for the Longboat Island Race. The 2006 Logo is a fine example of his work.

As events unfold, please check this location for updates about memorial services, and any further news.

I saw that this evening too.  How sad.  And how symbolic that he died while we were running the race that he put so much into.

I had a great time at the long boat race. The weather was great. I was really hoping to break the 20 min mark. At the first k I did break the 4 min mark it was my first time doing that it was 3:58. I think that's what happen I could not keep that pace up I had nothing left near the 3k mark so I started to slow down. I went out a bit fast yes 4th in the 30-34 group i'm happy  with that.I'm glad to see some of you guys again yes it was fun with you guys thier too.Thier were a few highlights that day my parents breaking thier old time from wolfeisland.Heather breaking an hour for the first time for the 10k. also Jane Cathy and Stacey breaking an hour for the 10k. Yes and Perta getting 2nd in her age group WTG.   And me getting my picture taking with Ed  That was my highlight of the day. I will be back next year this time running the 10k. Derek.

It was a fun and exciting day, wasn't it Derek!  I still think that you did amazing, even if you didn't make your goal time.  And 4th in your age group -- we all know how tough the 30 and 40 year olds age group for men can be!!!  You should be very proud of your results.
